Position Overview


The Goetz Fitzpatrick Trusts and Estates Group provides services to a diverse group of clients needing foundational documents to high-end tax and asset protection planning, as well as fiduciary support and guidance. The ideal candidate is motivated, productive, and has a passion for solving challenging situations. A minimum of three years’ experience in a law firm environment is required. The position requires responsibility for transactional aspects of the practice such as working with estate planning clients to identify their needs and drafting documents that meet those needs such as Last Will and Testament, health care proxies, powers of attorney, and simple and complex trusts. The position also requires responsibility for overseeing estate and trust administration matters in Surrogate’s court.  The ideal candidate possesses the demonstrated ability to think critically, analyze complex legal issues, and develop practical solutions for clients with unique situations in collaboration with the supervising attorney. 


Responsibilities include


·        Work directly with clients in the estate planning, from intake to drafting to signing. 

·        Drafting simple and complex trusts, wills, health care proxies, and powers of attorney for clients.

·        Oversee probate and trust administration matters, including drafting court documents and ensuring timely compliance with deadlines and service of citations.

·        Work directly with fiduciaries to assist them in fulfilling their obligations and effectively and efficiently administrating trusts and estates.

·        Prepare and review judicial and non-judicial accounting for estates, trusts, and guardianships. 

·        Be responsible for managing and overseeing a portfolio of client matters and ensuring deadlines are timely met. 

·        Research legal issues and prepare legal memoranda or providing oral briefings to supervising attorney.

·        Appear in Surrogate’s court on citation return dates and in Supreme Court for conferences on trust matters.

·        Collaborate with attorneys and other professionals to deliver exceptional client service. 

·        Other related duties as assigned by managing attorney.

Skills and Education


The preferred candidate will have:

·        J.D. from accredited law school and New York bar admission required.

·        Minimum of three years of experience in a law firm setting with trusts and estates experience

·        Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office programs

·        Proficiency in conducting legal research on Lexis and Westlaw

·        Ability to touch type at 55+ wpm.
