We are seeking an accomplished Director of Environmental Compliance with expertise managing RCRA Part B programs and permitting initiatives for industrial wastewater applications. This is an exciting opportunity to join the corporate leadership team at a rapidly-growing provider of hazardous and nonhazardous industrial wastewater collection, treatment, disposal, and oil recovery services throughout the US.


As the Director of Environmental Compliance, you will lead the standardization, implementation, and adherence of corporate environmental programs companywide, while overseeing a team of Regional Compliance Managers and Waste Approval Specialists. Additionally, you will participate in the due diligence and integration of new mergers and acquisitions as part of the corporate growth strategy.

Essential Job Functions:


  • Provide leadership, coaching, and direction to a team of Regional Compliance Managers and Waste Approval Specialists with varying experience levels.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce standard corporate environmental programs, polices, and procedures for all hazardous and nonhazardous treatment facilities companywide.
  • Provide technical assistance for all hazardous waste, centralized wastewater, and used oil, regulations including RCRA Part B, 40 CFR Part 437, and 40 CFR Part 279.
  • Maintain responsibility for hiring, training, annual performance reviews, salary evaluations, employee development, and leadership succession planning for the Environmental department.
  • Obtain and renew corporate certifications such as ISO 14001 and environmental permits such as RCRA Part B and Title V.
  • Oversee the corporate approval process of acceptable hazardous and nonhazardous wastewater profiles for treatment and disposal.
  • Devise strategies to minimize Notifications of Violations (NOVs), and review / respond to regulators regarding NOVs as needed.
  • Train all Compliance Managers, Waste Approval Specialists, Plant Managers, and General Managers on the proper corporate procedures for performing and documenting waste characterizations and waste sampling events.
  • Ensure safe and compliant transportation and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of US EPA, federal, state, and local environmental regulations concerning hazardous and nonhazardous wastewater storage, treatment, and disposal.


Qualifications and Experience Required:


  • BS/BA in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field is required. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Previous experience with RCRA Part B permitting and/or compliance is mandatory.
  • 15+ years of environmental compliance and/or EHS experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing a team of EHS / Compliance Managers.
  • Proven success leading environmental programs for an entire company, business unit, division, or national geographic footprint.
  • Well-versed in conducting waste characterization profiles for the acceptance of incoming waste streams for storage, treatment, processing, or disposal.
  • Previous experience with Title V Air permitting and compliance.
  • Knowledgeable and well-versed in maintaining compliance to 40 CFR Part 437 and 40 CFR Part 279 federal regulations.
  • Prior experience obtaining or renewing an ISO 14001 certification is highly desired.
  • Previous experience evaluating and integrating new mergers and acquisitions is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Flexibility to travel and train personnel as needed, up to 25-30%.
