The Senior Purchasing Agent oversees the Purchasing Team to ensure appropriate inventory levels, inventory accuracy and maintenance, and good working relationships with co-workers and vendors. The Senior Purchasing Agent also provides input to the Director of Procurement and Purchasing Team regarding pricing strategies, vendor recommendations and inventory logistics. The Senior Purchasing Agent leads the team with a focus on our mission statement, value proposition and core values.


RESPONSIBLE TO: Director of Procurement


DUTIES:

1. Inventory Management

a. Senior Purchasing Agent will have purchasing responsibilities and will provide back-up for Purchasing Team as needed.

b. Work with Director of Procurement to establish budgets, product calendar and inventory targets for Purchasing Team.

c. Oversee day-to-day duties of the Purchasing Team in-line with established budgets, product calendar and inventory targets.

d. Provide regular feedback to the Director of Procurement regarding established budgets, product calendar and inventory targets.

e. Monitor inventory levels and work with the Purchasing Team to ensure timely and accurate replenishment.

f. Support Purchasing Team to maintain positive relationships with vendors and stores.

g. Support store feedback regarding inventory selections, pricing and vendors.

h. Attend purchasing events, on-site and occasional travel.  

i. Work with Training Specialist to identify product training needs and coordinate Farm Supply and vendor-sponsored training, including Training Expo, other on-site training and digital learning.

j. Schedule directed counts.

k. Assist with year-end physical inventory.

2. Vendor Relationships

a. Assist Purchasing Team in identification and evaluation of current and potential vendors.

b. Support and assist Accounts Payable with vendor issues as needed, including credits.

c. Work with Accounting Department and Procurement Department to monitor vendor rebates, coop, coupons and frequent buyer reimbursements.

3. Marketing and Merchandising

a. Collaborate with the Purchasing Team to provide promotional items to the Marketing Coordinator.

b. Work with Company Merchandiser on in-bound inventory, particularly seasonal buys, new products/lines, displays and large/hard to display products to support merchandising plan. 

c. Ensure Purchasing Team provides required information in a timely manner to the Marketing Coordinator and the Company Merchandiser.

4. Meetings

a. Visit each store quarterly, at a minimum.

b. Facilitate regular Purchasing Team meetings.

c. Attend regular Procurement Department meetings.

d. Attend Manager Meetings quarterly with the Purchasing Team.


RELATIONSHIPS:

The Senior Purchasing Agent reports directly to the Director of Procurement. The Senior Purchasing Agent works closely with the Procurement Department, Accounts Payable and Store Managers. 


SKILLS:  

Proficient in the use of MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Comfortable with the use of technology and software

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 

Self-motivated and good time-management skills

Able to multi-task and meet deadlines

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Able to interact successfully with customers and co-workers

Professionalism in conduct and presenting of one’s self


EQUIPMENT: The Senior Purchasing Agent will have an assigned work desk, computer, and other general office machines in the Business Services office.


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related discipline is preferred

2 years retail experience is preferred

2 years of purchasing experience is required

Supervisory experience is required
