Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Chief Health Officer (CHO), the Physician Medical Director will work alongside the Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) Medical Director as an essential member of the Clinical Department and shares responsibility for the day-to-day supervision and oversight of clinical services, as well as providing direct patient care. The Physician Medical Director provides real-time analysis and recommendations for improvement in clinical operations and provider and clinical staff supervision concerning all aspects of patient care across various clinical sites.


Working closely with the CMO, the Director of Operations and clinical staff, this position involves direct clinical care and administrative responsibilities to effectively integrate and coordinate clinical services and carry out operational initiatives to meet organizational goals and objectives.


The Medical Directors assist the CMO in developing and maintaining interdepartmental partnerships to assure high quality care across the system. The Medical Directors collaborate with the CMO, nursing, Director of Operations, and Director of Information and Clinical Outcomes to implement a Population Health based model across medical services. At the discretion of the CMO, the Medical Directors may represent Peach Tree Medical Services at interagency collaborative meetings across Yuba/Sutter/Sacramento Counties.

Work Experience and qualifications

  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Obstetrics and Gynecology
  • Minimum of three years clinical care experience preferred.
  • Experience in a medical administrative position involving supervision of medical professionals preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) preferred.
  • Experience with Managed Care and Medi-Cal charting requirements, billing, and coding preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of multi-ethnic and underserved communities.
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills


Education

Must have and maintain: California Medical License, DEA License, BLS Certification; Must maintain education sufficient to remain licensed


Examples of Duties

Provider Recruitment and Retention

  • Actively gather and respond to feedback from medical providers to enhance their experience and satisfaction.
  • Collaborate in the recruitment of new providers, establishing a robust mentoring framework to support them during onboarding and throughout the course of their employment.
  • Organize and facilitate educational sessions for providers to promote continuous learning and professional development.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of supportive clinical and administrative workflows that enhance operational efficiency and provider satisfaction.
  • Optimize organizational workflows to streamline inbox message management and communication across the team.

Program Development, Clinical care oversight and quality assurance

  • Provide regular and ongoing oversight of provider care & productivity, ensuring excellence in provision of clinical care services
  • Collaborate in development of clinical workflows and protocols consistent with evidence-based practice
  • Monitor and coach providers to meet Quality Measure targets and goals.
  • Identify best practices for the purpose of continuous quality improvement, assist in implementation of any necessary clinical protocols
  • Promote provider use of staff facing dashboards and incentives to drive clinical quality improvement
  • Participate in Quality Assurance, conduct annual evaluation of all providers, address any concerns that arise in peer review evaluation
  • Assist CMO with implementation, monitoring, and improvement of the Provider Incentive programs.
  • Implement policies, objectives, or activities to ensure smooth service delivery, and to increase patient access as indicated.
  • Oversee providers' schedules to ensure adequate coverage to accommodate demands for medical services and to maximize utilization of organizational resources.
  • Review and approve provider leave and education requests
  • Engage in integrated workgroups focused on program development, the expansion of medical services, and grant-related initiatives.
  • Supervise advanced practice clinicians and ensure appropriate and timely supervision of all providers at assigned clinic(s)
  • Provide advice and counsel to providers on matters related to clinical care, clinical quality, patient grievances, and related issues. Minimize risk and exposure to the organization by monitoring trends, managing issues, coaching providers, and ensuring compliance with all clinical protocols and guidelines.
  • Schedule and conduct monthly Provider Meetings and other management or quality meetings as assigned by CMO.
  • Serve in the capacity of Chief Medical Officer in the event that the CMO is unavailable or if the position is temporarily vacant.


Development and Implementation of Medical Department Care Standards and Policies

  • Provide medical guidance to the Operations Team to develop policies pertaining to patient care and other related support functions.
  • Maintain medical operations in compliance with applicable state/local laws, regulations, and policies including clinical compliance with the 19 HRSA/FQHC Program requirements.
  • Provide necessary and timely communication to the CMO and CHO when issues of patient care, delivery of care, or compliance arise. Assist in development and implementation of a corrective strategy. Participate in Risk Management discussions and meetings.
  • Ensure all patient records, charts, and related documentation are properly updated and maintained consistent with laws, rules, regulations, and best practices.


Monitoring of Medical Education Programs

  • Assist the CMO in developing and maintaining a comprehensive teaching and mentoring program for learners, including but not limited to nurse practitioner residents and students, physician assistant students and medical students and residents
  • In conjunction with other medical and general staff, develop and design new medical education rotations or experiences as appropriate to Peach Tree Health patient needs.
  • Assist in development of Advance Practice Clinician educational series as indicated based on organizational need or request.

Patient Care

  • Full time position: 40% administrative, 60% clinical time (part time remote possible). Administrative and clinical time are subject to change based on administrative assignments.
  • Provide comprehensive patient care in accordance with the privileges of a Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or Obstetrics and Gynecology Provider
  • Participate in Re-credentialing every 2 years
  • Abide by all HIPAA and Compliance requirements
  • Maintain and enhance competency through in-services, staff meetings and educational programs. Meet state licensing requirements for continuing medical education.
  • Abide by all terms and conditions of the employment contract.


Travel Requirements

Must travel to other sites to supervise staff and attend meetings or trainings; occasionally overnight for training.
