Position Description
The Superintendent’s primary role is to provide overall field management and administration to field employees, subcontractors, vendors and suppliers.  The Superintendent may manage a major project or many projects simultaneously.

 

Core Responsibilities

v Deliver a quality project safely, on time, within budget and with focus on establishing positive relationships

v Manage subcontractors and vendors in a coordinated manner while developing long lasting relationships for the Company

v Provide input and valuable review of subcontractor scope to assist the PM

v Create and maintain relationships with unions to foster harmony on the project site

v Create and maintain relationships with customers

v Maintain care and custody of the project site to assure safety is of the utmost priority

v Ensure that Quality Control requirements are met and followed in accordance with the Contract Documents

v Provide assistance with pre-job planning, strategizing and conceptual scheduling

v Provide training and mentorship to field personnel

v Focus on creating and maintaining respect from Subcontractors, Owners, Design team and subordinates

v Ensure timely submission of Incident and Accident Reports

v Produce tight, realistic construction schedules

v Institute a “zero punchlist” philosophy, to minimize punchlist and call backs on projects

v Ability to finish projects ahead of schedule

v Ensure that no subcontractor is allowed to work on-site without an approved Insurance certificate, signed Subcontract or a Letter of Intent

v Provide constructive input into policy making relating to field employees

v Perform professional and thorough annual evaluations and focuses on following up on training objectives for field employees reporting to this position

v Organize, manage and record meetings

v Produce daily reports and Weekly Status Reports

v Take digital progress photographs

v Assist the project team in developing monthly cost reports

v Execute the Company Safety Program

v Establish good working relationships with government agencies

v Mentor subordinates

v Promote a team atmosphere

 

Qualifications

v BS or BA in engineering or related discipline.  (A proven track record of Construction and/or Management experience in the field may be substituted for degree.)

v Extensive knowledge of the Owner contracts, drawings and specifications, subcontract agreements, insurance risks. Focuses on mitigating risk for the Company.

v Extensive knowledge of the Scheduling process

o   able to provide a project plan for use in the development of the overall project schedule

v Thorough knowledge of self-performance activities including site work, concrete, underground utilities particular to gas and electric transmission, substations and campus infrastructure

o   Understanding of the manpower requirements related to these activities

v Ability to provide professional representation at a project interview

v Proficient at public speaking

v Thorough knowledge of OSHA 1926 and related Corporate Safety Program

v Thorough knowledge of Safety Risk Management process, including understanding of EMR, IR, SR, FR and how to effectively improve Safety performance ratings in each of these areas

v Thorough knowledge of confined space, hazmat, asbestos, lead paint and other hazard policies and procedures

v Thorough knowledge of equipment safety

o   assures that all required inspections of equipment onsite are completed

v Ability to manage an entire Project field force commensurate with high-risk large projects

v Ability to provide coaching/mentoring/leadership to field supervisory staff

v Successfully completed OSHA 30-hour safety training

v Successfully completed First Aid and annual CPR training

v Proficiency with computer programs necessary

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
