Job Description

Medtronic is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join our North Haven, CT team. This role focuses on designing, implementing, and optimizing control systems and automation processes for advanced medical technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial network integration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • PLC Programming: Develop, implement, and maintain PLC programs using Allen-Bradley Logix. Troubleshoot and optimize existing PLC systems to improve performance and reliability.
  • HMI/SCADA Systems: Design and configure HMI and SCADA systems, particularly with FactoryTalk View, ensuring smooth integration with control systems and user interfaces.
  • Industrial Networking: Utilize and manage EtherNet/IP networks to facilitate efficient communication and data transfer between control system components.
  • System Interfaces: Implement and manage Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and other system interfaces to enhance control and automation processes.
  • Technical Documentation: Interpret and create Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), electrical diagrams, and logic diagrams. Maintain comprehensive documentation of control systems and automation processes.
  • CAD Design: Use CAD software for creating and reviewing design diagrams. Apply principles of low-voltage electrical design as needed.
  • Troubleshooting: Apply strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve issues in control systems and automation processes. Provide technical support to ensure system reliability.
  • Technical Writing: Prepare detailed technical reports, design documentation, and user manuals. Clearly communicate complex technical information.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with engineering teams to adhere to engineering standards and project requirements. Adapt to evolving practices and contribute to continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 7-10 years of experience in PLC programming and control system design, focusing on Allen-Bradley Logix. Experience with HMI/SCADA systems, especially FactoryTalk View, is essential.
  • Skills:
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen-Bradley Logix).
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk View).
  • Knowledge of EtherNet/IP and industrial networking.
  • Understanding of VFDs and system interfaces.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical diagrams, and logic diagrams.
  • Experience with CAD software for design and documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical writing, and communication skills.
  • Additional Requirements:
  • No OPT & CPT candidates accepted.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
