Job Summary:

We’re looking for a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team in Dearborn, MI, on a contract basis. In this role, you’ll work closely with students, families, and school staff to create an inclusive, supportive learning environment tailored to the individual needs of each student. Key Responsibilities:

Develop and Implement IEPs:

  • Design and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on students’ strengths, needs, and goals.
  • Collaborate with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure IEPs are customized to promote academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
  • Continuously monitor and assess student progress, making adjustments to strategies and goals as needed.

Instructional Support:

  • Provide differentiated instruction in core subjects, adapting lessons to meet a variety of learning styles and abilities.
  • Utilize a range of teaching methods, including hands-on activities, technology, and assistive devices, to engage and support students with diverse needs.
  • Foster a classroom environment that promotes inclusion, independence, and positive behavior.

Behavior Management:

  • Implement behavior intervention strategies aligned with students' IEP goals, promoting positive behavior and self-regulation.
  • Collaborate with school staff to create and maintain a structured, supportive classroom environment.
  • Address behavioral challenges in a calm, constructive manner, focusing on skill-building and self-management.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with general education teachers, specialists, and support staff to ensure seamless integration of services and accommodations.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress, challenges, and strategies to support learning at home.
  • Actively participate in team meetings and contribute to school-wide initiatives related to special education.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Maintain detailed records of student progress, behavior, and any adjustments to IEPs.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  • Participate in annual IEP reviews and any other relevant meetings.

Professional Development:

  • Stay current on special education best practices, research, and legal requirements.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and effectiveness.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Valid Michigan teaching certification in Special Education.
  • Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
  • Experience working with students with various disabilities, including autism, learning disabilities, and emotional/behavioral disorders.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with students with special needs.
