Planet Technology is seeking a junior Network Technician for a full time role. The position does require local travel as well as being onsite in the Cincinnati area.


In this role, you will assist in the day-to-day management and troubleshooting of network infrastructure, including hardware, software, and cabling. This position is ideal for individuals just starting their career in IT, providing hands-on experience with various network systems and the opportunity to learn from senior network professionals.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of network devices such as routers, switches, access points, and firewalls.
  • Perform basic network maintenance tasks, such as software updates, patching, and backups.
  • Help with the installation and termination of network cabling, including Ethernet and fiber optic cables.
  • Monitor network performance and assist in diagnosing network issues using various diagnostic tools.
  • Provide technical support to users experiencing network-related issues, escalating more complex issues to senior technicians.
  • Work with A/V setups
  • Assist in setting up and maintaining wireless networks, VPNs, and other network services.
  • Document network configurations, installations, and changes in a clear and organized manner.
  • Ensure that network hardware is properly labeled and organized within server rooms and data centers.
  • Collaborate with the IT team on projects such as network expansions and upgrades.
  • Maintain and update inventory of network equipment and supplies.


Required Skills and Experience:


  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate's degree in Networking, Information Technology, or a related field is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts such as IP addressing, subnetting, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Familiarity with common networking devices (routers, switches, firewalls) and their functions.
  • Knowledge of cabling standards and best practices (Ethernet, fiber optic).
  • Ability to use basic network diagnostic tools such as ping, traceroute, and network analyzers.
  • Exposure to network monitoring tools is a plus but not required.
  • Understanding of network security concepts is an advantage but not essential.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a technical role.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
