The Supervisor Surgical Services – MOR works on-site in our 350-bed, full-service hospital, located just 15 minutes from anywhere in Metro Milwaukee.



Schedule Details/Additional Information:

Monday – Friday 0600-1430 w/the possibility of flexing hours based on department and/or team member needs. This Supervisor will rotate into the "leader on-call" weekend rotation (approx. 1 in 5 weekends)



Supervise all patient care services in the Main OR, including nursing and anesthesia, and ensures adequate staffing of nursing and support services staff. Coordinate staff and resources to ensure cohesive, high quality patient care. Responsible for the efficient flow of surgical cases in the Operating Room (OR).



Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead morning Huddles and participate in departmental meetings.
  • Use expertise in Main OR operations to effectively supervise On-Time Starts, patient throughput, correct set-up for surgical procedures and troubleshoot operational, safety and quality concerns. Monitors and assesses operating room resources (personnel and equipment, and rooms).
  • Responsible for expediting surgery schedule as it relates to both elective and non-elective procedures.
  • Monitor employee assignments; maintains staff scheduling, evaluates staffing levels and makes adjustments as necessary to maintain productivity level established for assigned area(s).
  • Assist the manger in the development of the annual site capital and operational budgets.
  • Promotes communication and serves as a clinical resource for patients, families, hospital departments, and medical staff to optimize the interdependence of all team members. Coordinate the needs of physicians and acts as liaison between the medical staff and the nursing staff by serving as a problem solver and mediator.
  • Evaluate the quality of patient care provided through collaboration with unit and organization resource people. Assure policies and procedures are in compliance with those of the medical center, the nursing department, and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide direct patient care by performing the nursing process, guided by policies, procedures and standards, to deliver safe, therapeutic, quality patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Perform human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale. Recommends hiring, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.



WHAT YOU WILL NEED:


Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices, and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • CNOR a plus



Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.



Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in nursing within an operating room or surgical services.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Advanced clinical and technical knowledge of the surgery, endoscopy, and pre-operative and post-operative areas.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills necessary.
  • Ability to handle multiple demands simultaneously.
