Purchasing Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Purchasing Assistant is responsible for performing purchasing and inventory-related duties under the direction of the Purchasing Manager to maximize ROI and ensure SKU's stay in stock. Besides solving day-to-day inventory issues, the main objective of this role is to further structure and optimize the supply chain planning by analyzing, evaluating, and detecting improvement potential.
This position will work closely with the purchasing manager, as well as accounts payable, operations, sales, customer service, and the warehouse to ensure adequate stock of goods.
This position carries out responsibilities in the following areas: Purchasing, Inventory Control, Vendor Relations, Accounts Payable, and Operations

Essential Functions:
Help manage overall inventory plans for product categories
Help manages the health of 10,000+ SKUS, monitor bestsellers, and discontinued SKUs.
Analyze historical data of SKUS, create spreadsheets standardizing buying.
Create SKU’s, UPCs, and item #s for new items being added to the product list.
Responsible for obtaining new product details for new item set-up.
Negotiate with vendors to reduce the cost of current items
Track purchase orders and ensure timely delivery
Update ERP system with order details (dates, vendors, quantities, discounts)
Follow up with suppliers, as needed to confirm or change orders
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Competencies:
Minimum 1-year purchasing experience
International (Asia/India) purchasing experience highly desirable
Experience in price shopping regardless of the commodity
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Must be able to work independently in a fast pace, rapid change environment
Proficient MS Office Skills: Outlook, Excel
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Associate degree or equivalent experience.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years in the purchasing field, and inventory regulation.
2+ years import experience in a purchasing department.
3-5 years of warehouse experience in a warehouse, manufacturing, distribution or logistics environment
Computer Skills: Experience in Microsoft Office, NAV, and ERP systems.
