Job Overview

AXEL is seeking a Technical Service Engineer with thermoset polymer composite (polyurethane, epoxy, polyester) molding experience reporting to our Technical Director. Focusing on growing and supporting business with existing customers and markets. This position will involve application engineering, sales support and field service work. This role works closely and collaboratively with both the laboratory and the sales team to demonstrate and troubleshoot our products in various molding applications. You will work to understand the product portfolio and the various molding application techniques. With this knowledge you will demonstrate our molding products and troubleshoot customer challenges related to their molding process.


Duties

o The goal is to understand various molding techniques, methods and processes, challenges for the sales team and the customer needs.

o Work hands on in the lab to understand the application development of our products.

o Daily tasks include inside sales support, application engineering and outside sales.

o Build your skills in understanding application processes for molding fiber reinforced polymeric parts for various industries (Automotive, Aerospace, Marine/RV).

o Educate and promote AXEL products to users in our Markets. This includes conference calls, meetings, presentations and product demonstrations.

o Develop and present training materials and videos for various molding applications, as well as create technical marketing documents to help promote our products.

o Provide training for customers by traveling to customer locations and working together on product demonstrations.

o Provide telephone and email support for customers and sales technicians to ensure our products are used for their applications.

o Conduct customer process audits and troubleshoot molding operations, addressing common issues across various applications, including open/closed molding, RTM, advanced composites, foam, and elastomers.

o Attend trade shows, meet with customers and look for new opportunities for our products.

o Focus on the polyurethane molding area for flexible and rigid foam and cast PU elastomers.

o Follow all company safety policies and work safely in a laboratory and chemical production environment.

o Assist with related special projects as required.

o Ability to Travel: up to 70% of the time. Please note this role is primarily based out of our Monroe, CT office.


Skills

  • Science or Engineering background; Chemistry or Material Science, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in the polymer composite market or chemical industry (laboratory, technical service or sales).
  • Bachelor’s degree or Technical Certifications preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills with experience interfacing with internal (cross-functional teams) and external (customers, vendors; technical representatives, etc.) groups at all levels.
  • Technical expertise with composites, plastics and molding techniques (Hand Layup, Pultrusion, RTM, Open & Closed Molding, Injection Molding, Advanced Composites, 3D Printing) preferred.
  • Fiber Reinforced Thermoset Experience-Autobody, Pool/Spa, RV, Boat Repair and fabrication highly desirable.
  • Experience with polyurethane and other thermoset polymers (epoxy and polyester)
  • Paint and coating experience.
  • Video Editing & Production Experience
  • Top notch customer service and willingness to go above and beyond to serve the customers.
  • Marketing and Promotion Experience.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Power Point, Excel and Word).
  • Ability to analyze, define, and effectively convey difficult and complex issues in a way that accurately communicates the issues to leadership and internal teams.
  • Can-do attitude and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • A team-player but able to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • A problem solver, who seeks solutions.
