Position Overview: Manage a group of engineers and designers to complete project-specific engineering activities identified by a Business Development Manager, Market Development Manager, or Product Manager. Accountable for resource allocation within the Project Engineering team, risk assessment and reduction activities, and project due dates for technical deliverables. Review and approve ECOs, drawing packages, bills of materials, math data, and other technical documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely completion of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), focusing on revenue-generating requests.
  • Oversee large projects and custom-engineered solutions.
  • Coordinate with sales and project management teams to allocate resources and manage workloads.
  • Lead technical review of specifications for quotations and large contract risk assessments.
  • Develop custom-engineered solutions, including design, modeling, prototyping, evaluation, and testing.
  • Ensure projects follow established design and quality practices.
  • Build application and product knowledge by developing design standards for transit systems and components.
  • Support R&D activities, create designs of experiments, and provide feedback on test results.
  • Monitor and manage department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and work to continuously improve engineering outputs.
  • Review Corrective Action Reports (CARs) and support root cause analysis and issue resolution.
  • Travel to support engineering teams and perform on-site inspections for large projects, both nationally and internationally.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with the Director of Engineering and Engineering Managers.

Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a group of Engineers and Designers.
  • Interview, hire, and train employees; conduct regular one-on-one sessions, assess performance, and correct behaviors when needed.
  • Provide leadership, technical expertise, and complete performance reviews for the team.
  • Ensure team direction, coordination, and evaluation align with organizational policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education and experience.
  • Mechanical PE License in Nebraska, with the ability to become licensed in other states as required.
  • 3-7 years of experience managing and leading technical staff.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical concepts, with expertise in mechanical and electrical product design.
  • Ability to manage long project timelines and maintain productivity to achieve milestones.
