The San Diego Diplomacy Council (SDDC) is a 501C3 organization based in San Diego, CA. For 45 years, SDDC has been fostering international dialogue and cross-cultural understanding between San Diego and the world. Last year, we hosted over 600 international leaders from over 120 countries in San Diego for professional exchange experiences. We also organized international affairs training programs for students, and community events, fellowship programs, and other experiences to connect our international visitors with the San Diego community in meaningful ways.


Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Program Officer works to ensure successful implementation of our international programs by assisting with all aspects of programming including researching prospective local professional contacts, creating program proposals, arranging logistics, drafting the local itinerary of appointments, and communicating all logistical details to the appropriate authorities. The program officer will also staff programs. Duties also entail tracking project expenditures, maintaining database, statistics and activity records related to the program.


Key Responsibilities

·      Conduct research on a variety of international topics and local professional contacts

·      Make logistical arrangements for groups of international visitors to San Diego, including travel, hotels, ground transportation, catering, etc.

·      Arrange meetings with local partners, implementing program objectives as outlined by the U.S. Department of State or other program funders

·      Process and track project expenditures; produce financial documents; assist in the monitoring of project budgets

·      Produce project materials, such as arrival packets, name badges, and administrative documents

·      Maintain project files and database and provide general project support

·      Brief interpreters and international participants on administrative procedures and logistical arrangements pertaining to project

·      Provide direction to interns and volunteers working on related projects

·      Provide support to events related to inbound delegations

·      Provide support for dinner hospitality requests

·      Perform other duties, as assigned

Desired Skills and Qualifications

·      Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience

·      2+ years of relevant professional experience

·      Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Excel.

·      Familiarity with Salesforce, Canva, WordPress, and social media platforms a plus

·      Strong verbal and writing skills with ability to communicate clearly and persuasively

·      Excellent time management, attention to detail and organization skills

·      Demonstrated strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills

·      Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environment

·      Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently and as part of a team

·      Familiarity with the San Diego community and an interest in global affairs is a plus
