New York, United States The Coding School Full time

The Senior Curriculum Developer will play a crucial role in shaping the future of STEM education for students across the globe. In this position, you will be at the forefront of our mission, helping to guide the vision and direction for high-quality curricula that not only engage students but also ignite their passion for learning and innovation.

You will work with a talented team to design and develop comprehensive, innovative, and relevant computer science educational programs that cater to the unique needs of high school students and educators. As an experienced teacher, you will ensure that our curricula are not only aligned with educational standards but also reflect the latest advancements in pedagogy and emerging technologies. The Coding School is on the forefront of the newest, most exciting topics in STEM, including quantum computing, AI and machine learning, and data science. While you may not be an expert in those fields, you will commit to broadening your technical knowledge and expanding your skillset as you model the role of “lifelong learner” for colleagues, teachers, and students.

We are committed to equity-focused curriculum development and culturally responsive teaching practices. You will lead efforts to create curricula that resonate with students from historically underrepresented backgrounds in tech, ensuring that all learners know they are seen, valued, and empowered. By integrating diverse perspectives and real-world contexts into our educational materials, you will help bridge the gap in access to STEM opportunities, fostering an inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and success.

Job responsibilities include…

Curriculum Development

  • Develop comprehensive, evidence-based, culturally responsive curriculum tailored to various audiences, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and educational standards.
  • Assess and evaluate existing educational programs, using data-driven methods to enhance effectiveness and learner engagement.
  • Follow the Backward Design process in development of all curricular materials and ensure all curricular products have clear, robust, innovative goals and learning objectives.
  • Conduct research on best practices, educational trends, and relevant content to inform curriculum design and development.
  • Work closely with educators, subject matter experts, and community partners to gather insights and feedback on curriculum effectiveness.
  • Help the Director of Curriculum design learning frameworks and curriculum rubrics to shape standardized design procedures.
  • Take initiative in formally proposing ideas for new products or improvements to existing products.

Professional development

  • Stay informed on educational trends, policies, and best practices to continuously improve curriculum offerings.
  • Lead internal peer review sessions and collaborative learning opportunities with colleagues to share best practices and receive constructive feedback on curriculum development.
  • Regularly evaluate personal performance and curriculum effectiveness, setting professional goals and seeking opportunities for improvement.
  • Whenever possible, pursuing relevant certifications or advanced training in curriculum design, instructional technology, and assessment practices to deepen expertise.
  • Leadership + Project Management
  • Champion a culture of accountability, intrinsic motivation, teamwork, and commitment to project success.
  • Oversee curriculum projects from conception to execution, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Set ambitious but realistic deadlines and then dependably meet or exceed those expectations.
  • Take full ownership of assigned tasks and projects and prioritize proactive not reactive problem solving. Explicitly take accountability for mistakes and failures as learning opportunities.

The ideal candidate has…

  • Minimum of 3 years as a classroom teacher in a public high school with a strong preference for experience at a Title 1 school.
  • Minimum of 2 years of additional curriculum development experience, specifically developing curricula for other educators.
  • Strong knowledge of educational standards, pedagogy, and assessment practices, and how they can be successfully applied in both in-person and virtual learning environments.
  • Deep understanding of both culturally relevant and culturally responsive teaching.
  • Experience teaching and/or developing learning materials for a computer science or technology course and a basic proficiency in at least one programming language, preferably Python.
  • Demonstrated success in leading curriculum development initiatives from ideation to implementation.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Experience using Zoom, Google Meet, or other virtual conferencing platforms.
  • Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive problem-solving attitude based on resourcefulness, curiosity, and experimentation. The candidate is not afraid to try new things, fail, and iterate.
  • Intrinsic motivation and the ability to work remotely without constant supervision.
  • Creativity, resilience, curiosity, and a genuine passion for the work.

Even better if you have…

  • At least two years of experience teaching Computer Science.
  • Taught or developed learning resources for middle as well as high school students.
  • Experience teaching and/or developing curriculum for asynchronous learning experiences and non-traditional classroom environments (community centers, camps, libraries, etc.)
  • Intermediate level understanding of at least one of the emerging technologies that we teach (quantum computing, AI and machine learning, and data science).
  • A bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Experience implementing the principles of Backward Design or UDL.
  • Previously developed and/or led professional development experiences for educators.
  • Familiarity with project and/or product management systems and processes.
  • Demonstrated success in a remote work environment.

Note: Candidates will be asked to share examples of their previous curriculum development work before being considered for the position.

We know that women, nonbinary, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ individuals often opt out of applying for job opportunities if they don't meet all job requirements.
