Sierra Executive Solutions, Inc. (SES) is a 3rd party search firm recruiting for a gaming/casino company's Controller with responsibility of accounting and consolidating financial data for multiple casino properties in No. NV and Las Vegas. The position reports directly to the CFO.


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Controller is responsible for ensuring all activity is accurately recorded in the financial statements, supervises the general ledger (GL) staff, and ensures compliance with the Nevada Gaming Control Board.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs all functions in accordance with applicable Gaming Control Board, Federal and other laws and gaming regulations and GCB policies and procedures
  • Plan and monitor all accounting transactions, internal controls, financial & statistical reporting, and reconciliations
  • Review and approve general ledger journal entries prepared by his or her staff for accuracy and ensures accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) as well as the GSR accounting policies and procedures
  • Prepare and analyze daily paperwork and reports; develop and implement recommendations for improved efficiency
  • Ensure timeliness of tax submissions, payments and all other required reporting to regulatory agencies
  • Ensures the highest possible standards of guest service are provided and listens and responds to external and internal guests concerns and questions
  • Work with all levels of management, including executives and consulting with key business stakeholders
  • Work with internal audit, internal compliance, and independent public accountants and various regulatory agencies including the Nevada Gaming Control Board and Internal Revenue Service
  • Evaluate processes to improve efficiency that would result in cost savings and greater accuracy
  • Ensures adequate coverage for the accounting team; oversees the supervision of staff, including work allocation, scheduling, training and problem resolution
  • Contributes to departmental effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues and goals, recommending courses of actions, and implementing directives
  • Ensures compliance of internal controls for all departments and administrative controls as related to team members, policies and procedures, NRS, Regulations, MICS, and Written System of Internal Control
  • On a monthly basis, reviews month end journal entries, account reconciliations, participates in the month end process of reviewing preliminary financial statements and resolves any unknown or unexplained items
  • Liaisons with IT to resolve any system problems related to systems used by the department
  • Coordinates activities with external and internal auditors
  • Conducts internal audits of data to ensure accuracy and integrity
  • Improves staff effectiveness by coaching, counseling, training and recommending disciplinary action for team members; and planning, delegating, monitoring, and appraising job tasks and results in a timely manner
  • Conducts annual department evaluation and assessments of department components and staff according to established policies, procedures, and regulations for the accounting team
  • Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required
  • Attends, and satisfactorily completes all required training as assigned and required
  • Assist the Finance & Accounting Controller in accomplishing any company projects, goals or objectives
  • Other duties as assigned


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Management strongly preferred
  • 4+ years full cycle accounting experience in the casino/gaming industry is required
  • 2+ years of accounting supervisory experience is required


LICENSES/CERTIFICATES:

Ability to obtain/renew all government required licenses or certification. (Nevada Gaming Control Board Gaming Work Permit)
