Legislative Staff Assistant/Receptionist

The Legislative Assistant/Receptionist plays a crucial role in providing administrative support and exceptional client service. In this position, you can expect to manage phone calls and emails, schedule appointments, interact directly with clients in a professional and welcoming environment, and assist with document preparation. This position reports on-site to our Washington, D.C. office.


Responsibilities

  • Research and write legislative correspondence and conduct legislative research.
  • Track advancement of bills through the legislative process, including monitoring and attending committee hearings, securing committee testimony and records preparation.
  • Prepare briefing documents for clients to use when meeting with members of Congress and/or Federal agencies.
  • Assist attorneys and lobbyists with legislative projects, as needed.
  • Administrative tasks may include answering the phones on occasion, handling expense reports, handling travel arrangements, and other administrative tasks, as necessary.
  • Handle the firm’s PAC requests.
  • Make appointment requests with Members of Congress and officials at Federal agencies, as necessary.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with careful attention to grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Minimum 2-years' experience in a professional setting; prior legal secretary or related experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with legal technology, i.e., court filings, document management program, computer systems, transcription software.
