Position Title: Infrastructure Engineer (Cisco Meraki & Azure)

Location: Chicago, IL (On-Site)

Summary:

The Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for managing and maintaining the organization’s IT infrastructure, with a focus on Azure cloud services and on-premises networking. This role requires a hands-on professional with deep expertise in cloud infrastructure management, networking, and Cisco Meraki products. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing, implementing, and supporting a robust IT environment that ensures high availability, security, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Networking and Cisco Meraki Administration:
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco Meraki network devices, including firewalls, switches, and wireless access points.
  • Monitor and optimize network performance, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime across all sites.
  • Implement and manage secure networking solutions, including VPNs, VLANs, and IPsec tunnels.
  • Perform regular network security audits and implement measures to protect against threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to maintain and enhance network infrastructure.


  • Azure Cloud Administration:
  • Manage and maintain the organization’s Azure environment, including virtual machines, storage accounts, networking, and other cloud services.
  • Design, implement, and monitor cloud infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and cost-efficiency.
  • Automate cloud operations using tools like Azure Automation, Azure CLI, and PowerShell scripts.
  • Implement and manage Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), including user and group management, SSO, and multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  • Ensure proper backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies are in place and tested regularly in the Azure environment.
  • Infrastructure Management:
  • Oversee the administration and support of the organization’s IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, and networking hardware.
  • Manage Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and other core infrastructure services.
  • Implement and manage virtualization technologies, such as Hyper-V or VMware, to optimize resource utilization and scalability.
  • Ensure the timely patching and updating of all systems to protect against security vulnerabilities.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of the IT infrastructure, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
  • Security and Compliance:
  • Implement and maintain security best practices across all infrastructure components, including firewalls, VPNs, and cloud services.
  • Monitor systems for security breaches and respond to incidents promptly, coordinating with the security team as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, or ISO 27001.
  • Perform regular security assessments and work with the IT team to mitigate identified risks.
  • Support and Troubleshooting:
  • Provide tier 2/3 support for infrastructure-related issues, working with the help desk and other IT staff to resolve problems efficiently.
  • Participate in on-call rotations for after-hours support as needed.
  • Lead or assist in IT projects, including new infrastructure deployments, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay current with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies, particularly in cloud computing and networking.
  • Propose and implement enhancements to the IT infrastructure to improve performance, security, and scalability.
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer to other IT staff as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT infrastructure management, with at least 3 years focused on Azure administration and networking.
  • Extensive experience with Cisco Meraki products, including setup, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in managing and administering Azure cloud services, including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS offerings.
  • Strong knowledge of networking principles, including routing, switching, firewalls, and VPNs.
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco Meraki, including the ability to design, deploy, and manage Meraki networks.
  • Familiarity with Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Scripting experience with PowerShell, Azure CLI, or similar tools for automation.
  • Understanding of security best practices and experience implementing security measures in both cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and documentation skills.

Certifications (Preferred):

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • Cisco Meraki Solutions Specialist
  • CompTIA Network+ or Cisco CCNA

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to travel to different office locations as required.

  • This is a fully on-site job offering.
  • Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required for system upgrades or emergency support.
