Lead Systems Engineer


My client are coming off the back of a multi million $ program win, where they are therefore seeking an established systems engineer to operate within a prestigious position of technical leadership. This role is at the forefront of innovative propulsion systems, which are applicable to UAV/Drone systems and various avionics functions.


Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to lead the design and development of electric machines from concept to production.
  • Make system design decisions involving performance analysis, risk analysis, requirements allocation, test and evaluation strategies, and verification methods.
  • Derive overall electric machine system requirements from customer-provided information and break down interface, weight, mechanical, electrical, software, power, efficiency, thermal, and EMC requirements into their respective subsystems.
  • Familiarity with PCB layout and design, and support the electrical team on schematic review, and circuit design.
  • Ability to create requirements documentation in written, verbal, diagram, and schedule formats.
  • Provide Product Management and other relevant groups within the company with data on market requirements, product shortcomings, competition, warranty issues, and any other information obtained through customer interactions.
  • Estimate resources and time required to design, develop, and implement hardware and software for electric machines that meet program schedule milestones.
  • Follow and suggest improvements to company operating policies and procedures related to the Systems Engineering function.



Qualifications:


  • B.S./ M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, plus 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in understanding the usage and application of electronic systems.
  • Adept knowledge of electric machine design, applications, and manufacturing.
  • In-depth knowledge of motor/generator controller design, applications, and manufacturing.
  • Significant experience in the application and/or design of embedded control systems and/or control system components.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of good engineering practices.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink is a plus.
  • Experience with DOORS, DNG, Cameo, Jira, Confluence, and/or equivalent Systems Engineering tools.
  • Technical leadership experience.
  • Ability to architect, design, write, and maintain C/C++ code.
  • Experience with thermal design considerations and electronics packaging.
