Electro-Optical Test Engineer

Santa Barbara Infrared, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Electro-Optical Test Engineer to join our System Engineering Group. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, integrating, and characterizing electro-optical test systems to support our market segments.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop specifications and guide the design of complex electro-optical test systems
  • Perform system performance modeling and requirements flow down analysis to support development
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineers to ensure designs meet system-level requirements
  • Develop system compliance methodology, including test procedures
  • Collect and analyze test data, making adjustments to optimize system performance
  • Interact directly with customers during factory acceptance testing and travel to customer facilities to lead on-site system installation, integration, and training
  • Perform routine troubleshooting, testing, and calibration in support of ongoing programs, as well as special-purpose programs
  • Work with engineering staff to document changes made to hardware and deviations from standard procedures as necessary
  • Perform conceptual design and analysis to support quoting activity for new customer applications
Requirements/Experience:
  • BS/BA in Engineering or other relevant technical degree
  • 7+ years' experience in electro-optics, infrared systems, or related field. An advanced degree may count towards years of experience
  • Excellent trouble-shooting capability and analytical skills
  • Ability to set priorities and organize incoming projects
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, and experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Preferred:
  • Experience using electrical and optical measuring instruments: multimeters, oscilloscopes, IR cameras, and microscopes
  • Experience performing radiometric measurements and modeling E/O systems
  • Proficiency with image data analysis software
  • Experience with proper handling of ESD sensitive parts, including PCB cards
  • Working knowledge of MEMS and/or photolithography fabrication processes
