Job Description:

Scheduler- Medical Oncology Physician Practice

Responsibilities
  • Promptly acknowledge patients and visitors
  • Completes patient check-out including scheduling future appointments
  • Obtains pertinent patient data, pre-certifications and insurance authorization to schedule imaging studies, diagnostic tests or outside referrals
  • Coordinates scheduling of tests/procedures with patients and informs patients of special instructions prior to appointment/procedure
  • Works directly with the provider and serves as the point person when the provider needs to contact a referring physician, specialist, patient, hospitalist, lab, etc.
  • Serves as the point person when a patient has a question for the doctor during business hours
  • Answers phones, routes call to the appropriate staff, and accurately documents/relays messages
  • Documents in the EHR where patients are sent for outside tests etc. to ensure clear direction for the medical records department to obtain result
  • Manages providers schedules and work with site manager/coordinator to resolve scheduling conflicts
  • Notifies provider of cancelled, missed or re-scheduled appointments
  • Performs other duties as assigned that facilitate efficient patient workflow and timely patient care

  • Ability to establish cooperative relationship with patients, families and staff.

  • Skill in data entry, and basic computer usage.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to break down complex issues.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience in scheduling patient appointments
  • Obtaining prior authorizations and scheduling diagnostic tests
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a stressful environment while providing positive interactions with patients and outside entities
