Big Bend Community College (BBCC), a rural college serving vibrant, culturally rich communities in the Columbia Basin of Central Washington invites applications for a Assistant Director of Finance in the college's Business Office Department.
The Assistant Director of Finance is responsible for the cashiering, accounts receivable, and accounts payable functions of the Business Office and the college.
The individual in this position is expected to exercise independent judgement and actions, acting in the best interest of the college.
The Assistant Director is an on-going member of the statewide Budget, Accounting, and Reporting Council (BAR).BBCC's organizational strength is captured in our small but mighty spirit. A small college taking on BIG things to enact BIG change to lift our students and employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary essential duties and responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:
- Under direction of Executive Director of Finance/Controller, manage, plan, and perform assigned accounting functions to support the college's academic and ancillary programs.
- Manage the cashiering office providing scheduling, training, and coordination of workflow between the cashiering office and other student service areas.
- Manage accounts payable staff and activities to ensure accurate and timely payment to vendors and disbursement of financial aid and refunds to students.
- Manage accounts receivable staff and activities reviewing receivables' aging and assuring that college billing for all receivables is timely and accurate.
- Direct and train the cashiering, accounts payable, receivable, and other accounting staff.
- Manage accounting activities to ensure the delivery of accurate, timely accounting services to Big Bend staff and students and to external governmental and private parties.
- Assist in preparing financial statements in accordance with guidelines established by the State Auditor's Office (SAO), staying abreast of changes in GAAP and GASB pronouncements as they relate to the financial statements.
- Manage budget staff and activities to ensure accurate allotment requests, based on established program plans, fiscal, or policy considerations.
- Direct the business office to ensure the delivery of accurate financial information meeting financial deadlines. Plan and assign work to ensure that services are performed in a timely and efficient manner according to appropriate policies, procedures, and applicable contracts and regulations.
- Ensure the effective and economical use of personnel, equipment, and facilities by efficiently managing expenses and staying within annual budgets for areas of responsibility.
- Assemble and manage resources needed to provide services including planning for, and managing necessary facilities, equipment, and software, to perform assigned accounting functions.
- Work with college constituents to ensure internal control processes are in place to provide the best measure of protection for the college's assets and effective accounting operations.
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and training to produce results that meet audit requirements.
- Assist in the monitoring of selected grant budgets.
- Conducts performance evaluations and takes actions necessary to correct and/or improve performance. Work to create a team atmosphere. Work with staff to resolve conflicts or other personnel issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Work collaboratively under the direction of Executive Director of Finance/Controller to ensure that the college's financial information is accurate and timely, and that all state regulations and college policies and procedures are met and are in accordance with Generally Acceptable Accounting Practices (GAAP).
- Participate in training and planning year-end and biennium-end activities.
OTHER WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Follow safe work practices and policies, including, but not limited to security and safety, fire, disaster, and safe lifting.
- Ensure self-compliance with college policies and procedures as well as state and federal requirements.
- Ensure the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the college's values.
- Conduct self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the college.
- Ensure that additional duties, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.
REMOTE WORK:
This position is not fully remote. Hybrid work may be available after the completion of the training period.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- One year of experience in an accounting or finance setting.
- Experience supervising employees
- Proficient in the use of Excel including pivot tables, charts, and macros.
- Previous experience working with individuals from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in accounting/finance within a public entity, preferably in a community college or higher education setting.
- Experience working with the State of Washington College accounting system.
- Bilingual English/Spanish, proficiency.
