Apple Janitorial Custodian Job Description

Job Summary:

The Custodian provides the cleaning and upkeep of all assigned areas.

General Responsibilities:

+ Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.

+ Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.

+ Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.

+ Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting work orders and checking supply levels.

+ Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

+ May assist in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.

+ Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on temporary project requirements.

+ May perform janitorial duties in areas where clients are working and must be sensitive to those activities.

+ May answer basic questions from client or refer them to management.

+ Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

+ High school diploma or equivalent.

+ 1 year janitorial/housekeeping experience.

+ Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.

+ Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.

+ Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.

+ Ability to safely use cleaning equipment and supplies.

+ Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to job duties.

+ Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.

+ Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

+ Ability to understand written and verbal communications.

Additional Responsibilities:

+ Adhere to the BCI rules and regulations set forth in the employee handbook.

+ Comply with all HACCP standards.

+ Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time.

Physical Requirements:

+ Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

+ Push and pull up to 50 lbs.

+ Stands and moves within assigned work area, or building for 6 to 7 hours (excluding breaks and lunch)

+ Some bending, stooping, and reaching as necessary to complete the work.
