Job Title: School Sign Language Interpreter
Location: Jacksonville, NC
Overview:
We are searching for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. The role involves facilitating communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and school staff. A strong understanding of American Sign Language (ASL) is essential for accurately interpreting spoken language into sign language and vice versa.
Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretation for students during various school activities.
- Ensure effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and others.
- Prepare materials to support students' learning and participation.
- Collaborate on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments.
- Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all interactions.
Qualifications:
- Hold certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or equivalent.
- Demonstrate proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a deep understanding of deaf culture.
- Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Adapt effectively to different educational environments and work well in a team.
- Experience in working with students with hearing impairments is preferred.
