This position entails administrative support in reviewing and processing building permits in accordance with City ordinances and building codes. A fundamental aspect of the role involves providing client services by answering inquiries, explaining permit requirements, and ensuring compliance with regulations. The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of building permit rules and regulations, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to operate standard office equipment. The role primarily involves office work, with tasks varying in complexity but generally following established procedures and precedents.

Examples of Work:

  • Answers questions and explains permit requirements to customers and telephone callers
  • Tracks payments, records judgments, and satisfaction of judgments, and files cases
  • Provides clear expectations on procedures and regulations to various stakeholders
  • Verifies permit fees and performs data entry for permit information
  • Ensures completeness of permit package and performs quality control on scanned documents
  • Resolves customer complaints and supervises lower-level employees
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail
  • Demonstrates proficiency in required software applications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of building permit laws, rules, and regulations
  • Knowledge of customer service practices and procedures
  • Ability to input data accurately into computer systems
  • Ability to interpret building codes and construction plans
  • Effective communication skills and ability to establish relationships with others

Open Requirements/Supplemental Information:

OPEN REQUIREMENTS:

  • Two years of education and/or experience in clerical work
  • Six months of processing permits for building construction preferred
