Job Description

Title: EHS Specialist

Hire Type: Direct Hire

Location: Gurnee, IL

Salary: $100k-$110k/yr.

Looking for an experienced EHS Specialist for a leading chemical manufacturer of silicates and its derivatives in Gurnee, IL. This is a great opportunity to work with a company with great benefits that emphasizes the skill and career development of their employees.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide EHS project management support, including negotiating strategies, technical problem solving, and regulatory interpretations
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies and legal on reporting, compliance concerns, and project management
  • Monitor regulatory requirements for Federal, State, and Local requirements changes.
  • Analyze and interpret permit conditions, providing guidance to operating units and the EHS team
  • Conduct field and site inspections for safety and environmental compliance
  • Ensure collection and interpretation of data for environmental permits and reporting (air, water, land)
  • Prepare reports for company personnel and regulatory agencies (EPCRA, SARA, Title V, NPDES)
  • Analyze consultant reports and recommend further testing and fieldwork
  • Participate in company audits (PQP, RC/ISO, EHS Compliance)
  • Develop and maintain programs to control occupational disease, injury, and environmental harm
  • Deliver regulatory required training on health, safety, and environment
  • Provide technical support to leadership on safety, health, and environmental compliance
  • Conduct EHS reviews of capital projects and collaborate on solutions
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the EHS Director
Qualifications:
  • University degree in engineering, environment, or science
  • At least 5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent knowledge of federal, provincial, state, and local EHS regulations
  • Knowledge of ISO14001, RC14001, ISO45001, ISO5001, or Responsible Care
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret regulations, journals, procedures, and results
  • Communicate technical information to non-technical personnel; knowledge of safety regulations, protocols, and procedures
  • Coach, teach, counsel, and speak to groups comfortably; able to work independently without supervision
  • Ability to travel as necessary
