JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Juvenile Services Counselor at Georgetown Juvenile Services, you will be part of a team reporting to a Counselor Supervisor. Your main responsibility will be to offer counseling and mental health support to youth and families within residential or field environments. You will be at Level I of II in Juvenile Counseling. This position specifically caters to the Georgetown Juvenile Services location.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling to youth and their families
- Perform crisis screenings for new clients
- Assist in coordinating community resources based on youth and family requirements
- Contribute to the identification and treatment of mental health needs
- Offer crisis intervention during mental health emergencies
- Help plan and execute mental health programs
- Act as a mental health liaison for youth, families, and medical professionals
- Support youth and families in mental health care transition and continuity
- Conduct mental health and counseling evaluations
- Maintain all mental health documentation and charts
- Educate non-mental health staff on youth mental health topics
- Assist in training counseling interns
- Visit homes and schools to monitor progress
- Train Juvenile Services staff on trauma care
- Provide updates to mental health professionals on progress
- Participate in essential meetings and training sessions
- Undertake any additional duties assigned
- Master's degree in behavioral health, counseling, or a related field OR graduation within three months of hiring and licensing criteria (refer to licensure requirements below)
- Minimum of six months of experience working with youth or families
- Proficient in job-related technology
Required within six months of hire:
- One of the following:
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) or Associate
- Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or intern/Associate
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
- Associate Sex Offender Therapist Provider (ASOTP)
- Licensed Sex Offender Therapist Provider (LSOTP)
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR and First Aid Certification
- Crisis Prevention Intervention
- Minimum of six months of experience as a licensed mental health professional
- One year of experience in youth-related work
- Proficient in both English and Spanish
