Mold Repair Technician

I. JOB PURPOSE
Maintain maximum injection mold production up-time by performing Level 1, 2, and 3 Cleaning & Preventive Maintenance functions, identifying mold damage and perform machining functions to repair molds to precise surface finish and dimensional requirements.
- Understand and follow all work instructions related to this role
- Operate equipment in a safe manner
- Access IQMS to pull work orders for preventive maintenance and repairs
- Organize workload by identifying risks, establishing priorities and setting daily work goals. Regularly assess the progress on mold repairs and PM activities and report issues that will cause delays or affect mold performance.
- Communicate with your supervisor to verify necessary components required to perform repairs are in stock to meet completion timeline.
- Perform Level 1, 2 & 3 cleaning & preventive maintenance (PM) of molds in order to keep them running and prevent any costly unplanned downtime from unexpected mold failure.
- Mold Cleaning Preventive Maintenance & Repair
- Disassemble molds based on work required
- Inspect for damage, surface wear, and vents
- Verify fit and functionality of all mechanisms, sliding components, and cooling system.
- Complete inspections of the cores and cavities to verify proper seal offs, dimensions, and finish.
- Troubleshoot issues if they arise and develop a plan to resolve with your supervisor.
- Make adjustments of components to ensure the mold achieves the required dimensional accuracy to perform effectively in testing and production.
- Reassemble molds completely and accurately
- Check to ensure tool is lubricated properly before tool is released to production
- Document all adjustments/changes in IQMS.
- Participate in continuous improvements efforts to improve operations and mold process.
Requirements:
- HS Diploma or Trade School Certification preferred
- 3+ years precision machining experience on grinders, mills, lathes, and other metal working equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of molds design types, the fit and function of various types of actions, lifters, ejection system, mold cooling components, latch lock systems, hot runner systems, mold interlocks, guiding systems, etc.
- Comprehensive background in the mold repair and preventive maintenance process, with good planning and communication skills.
- Experience using crane, hoist, and electric pallet jacks to move molds safely
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems to track work orders and status
