Clinical Mental Health Professional

Job Summary:
Clinical Mental Health Professionals manage a team of mental health professionals providing intervention services to youth involved with Travis County Juvenile Probation. They oversee screening, assessment, monitoring, and treatment of juveniles in both residential and community settings. Responsibilities include developing treatment plans, maintaining safety, completing documentation, and collaborating with the treatment team.
- DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This role is the first in a series of Clinical Mental Health Professional positions within the Social Services family. It involves providing mental health services to inmates in Travis County Jail. The position requires work under clinical supervision and flexibility due to the nature of working with inmates with serious mental health conditions.
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain safety and security at all times.
- Conduct screenings and assessments of patients.
- Observe and monitor patient well-being, develop treatment plans, and document patient status.
- Communicate with staff and corrections officers, participate in the treatment team, and address any issues or concerns.
- Minimum Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology and at least one year of social service experience.
- Valid Texas Driver's License.
- Professional certification such as LMSW, LCSW, LPC, or LMFT. Must provide documentation of clinical supervision if not fully licensed.
- Preferred Qualifications:
Two years' experience in relevant fields, Certified Correctional Health Professional, and Spanish fluency.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Understanding of mental health conditions, treatment strategies, and risk factors.
- Proficiency in counseling, conflict resolution, documentation, and communication.
- Ability to engage with patients, problem solve, and maintain a secure environment.
- Work Environment & Other Information:
Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds, visual acuity, and extensive interaction with patients. The role may involve a flexible schedule and occasional weekend shifts.
