Old Republic Surety Company (ORSC) is currently seeking an Accounting Manager to join its Financial Accounting & Reporting Team at its home office located in Brookfield, WI. Under the guidance of the Assistant Vice President - Controller, this position oversees all aspects of financial accounting and reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and transparency in our financial statements. The position is also responsible for managing the accounting functions for the various processes, including premium, claims, reserves, and reinsurance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash
    flow statements, in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and
    regulatory requirements. Prepare and review all other necessary SEC reports and filing
    information to be provided to the parent company in Chicago. Conduct variance, trend, and
    other financial analyses to identify key drivers of financial performance and provide insights to
    management.
  • Develop and maintain complex financial models to support strategic decision-making,
    forecasting, and budgeting processes. This includes scenario analysis, sensitivity analysis, and
    forecasting techniques to assess potential impacts on financial performance. Maintain effective
    processes for reporting and analyzing claims and reinsurance activity and reserving estimations.
  • Design and implement statistical reporting methodologies to analyze business performance
    metrics, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to management. Complete the filing
    process for required statistical filings with various states and statistical agents. Prepare analyses
    and other work products required to calculate and present routine reserve estimates and
    reinsurance activity.
  • Lead efforts to identify opportunities to streamline financial reporting processes, improve
    efficiency, and enhance the quality of financial reporting. This includes assessing current
    procedures, implementing best practices, and leveraging technology solutions to automate
    manual tasks. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, claims, and underwriting, to
    understand business processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes to
    optimize financial reporting processes.
  • Manage the company's SOX / COSO compliance efforts, including documentation, testing, and
    remediation of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Supervise direct reports and make recommendations for performance management and
    disciplinary action. Provide guidance and training to finance team members on financial
    reporting policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance and consistency across
    the organization. In addition, contribute to the new employee selection process.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external auditors during the annual audit process, addressing
    inquiries and providing support as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field, and a minimum of five years of related experience, including previous experience supervising or leading a team, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working as an Accounting Manager requires one to work independently and effectively within a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Windows and Office products is necessary. Other skills necessary include excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and accurate proofreading skills, the ability to maintain accurate records, the ability to exercise discretion with confidential information, strong attention to detail, and the ability to use a variety of office equipment.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:This position requires one to sit for extended periods of time and stand and/or walk occasionally. The position requires one to occasionally push, pull, carry, and/or lift up to 10 pounds. No personal protective equipment is required. Ergonomic equipment is available to employees.WHO ARE WE?
