Landfill Operations Manager

I. Job Summary
Ensure the highest standards of environmental safety and operational excellence by effectively managing the day-to-day operations of the landfill.

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To excel in this role, you need to handle the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure smooth operation of landfill including ongoing construction, permitting, leachate/gas management.
  • Minimize operational costs while maximizing productivity, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Reduce turnaround time for trucks entering and leaving the site.
  • Accurately track waste volume and weight.
  • Act as a liaison for community relationships when needed.
  • Monitor ongoing permitting issues.
  • Ensure adherence to Waste Management's Mission to Zero standards for safe and efficient operations.
  • Meet financial review dates and corporate programs promptly.
  • Oversee personnel needs, including selecting, coaching, training, and evaluating employee performance.
  • Assist in the budget process as necessary.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and maintenance of the landfill property.
  • Conduct or attend safety meetings and provide necessary training.
  • Submit required reports promptly.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities
This role involves:

  • Direct supervision of 5+ full-time employees.
  • Indirect supervision of 10+ full-time employees.

IV. Qualifications
The qualifications required for this job include:

  • A. Education and Experience
    - Education: Bachelor's Degree or High School Diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant landfill work experience.
    - Experience: 7 years of relevant landfill work experience with at least 2 years of supervisory/leadership experience.
  • B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
    - Valid Driver's License.
  • C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
    - Solid understanding of landfill operations.
    - Experience operating landfill equipment such as dozers and dump trucks.

V. Work Environment
