Organization & Position Summary:

The Arc Minnesota promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, actively supporting them and their families in a lifetime of full inclusion and participation in their communities.

The Controller will manage and oversee the overall financial operations of The Arc Minnesota, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and legal requirements. This includes leadership responsibilities for financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and the management of the organization's financial and accounting policies. Additionally, this position will:
  • Enhance internal controls

Major Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily operations of the finance department, handling both program and retail-related financial activities.
  • Maintain and reconcile ledger accounts and ensure accurate financial data in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
  • Enhance and enforce internal controls, documenting procedures, and recommend improvements for financial efficiency and risk reduction.
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Monitor and enforce accounting policies and procedures, making recommendations to improve efficiency and strengthen procedures.
  • Coordinate the preparation of organizational and programmatic budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Analyze financial data and performance against budgets, providing detailed reports and insights to the CFO.
  • Manage treasury functions.
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of annual audits and 990 reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings, including sales tax and unclaimed property reports.
  • Implement and oversee systems for handling financial transactions and contracts with adherence to legal and organizational standards.
  • Supervise the Finance Team to ensure timely and accurate recording of financial information.
  • Provide guidance on financial and accounting issues to the finance team and broader organization.
  • Attend organizational events and meetings as requested, representing the finance department.
  • Support and partner with program managers, external billing agents, and the development team to align financial and operational strategies.
  • Use the principles of the Disability Justice to guide day-to-day work.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required. MBA or equivalent preferred.
  • 5 years of progressive experience in finance required.
  • 2 years in nonprofit preferred.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate cross culturally and strengthen inclusion, diversity, and equity within the workplace.
  • Experience with accounting software and excel required.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and negotiation skills required.
