Job Title: Research Staff Member

Location: Reston, VA

Description: As part of a government consulting organization, you will apply advanced mathematical and scientific methodologies to address key questions defined by the Sponsor.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with a project-based team of internal staff and external contractors.
  • Engage closely with the Sponsor to assess data science needs and provide timely updates.
  • Consult with clients to identify current and future requirements for Sponsor's consideration.
  • Utilize project management tools like CMS, Confluence, and JIRA to define and monitor project requirements.
  • Regularly communicate project updates and outcomes to customers and stakeholders through written and verbal briefings.
  • Ensure traceability within program documentation and computing environment.
  • Implement data science solutions including data engineering and analytics services as specified by the Sponsor.
  • Follow the complete software lifecycle to develop data science products covering data ingestion, analytics (potentially involving machine learning), and output in machine-readable formats or user interfaces.
  • Create efficient data engineering pipelines using Apache NiFi and Python with REST APIs and microservices.
  • Clean, parse, and transform data from various sources into suitable database architectures for scalability.
  • Develop training materials with detailed Jupyter Notebooks for open-source and commercial software usage and Sponsor-specific data science tools.
  • Design, deploy, and enhance features using Python for data science products, including packages, code documentation, and microservices.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field.
  • Minimum 6-8 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Experience in Linux computing and bash scripting.
  • Ability to create complex queries with database technologies like PostgreSQL, MySQL, Neo4J, or RDS.
  • Skills in processing structured and unstructured data.
  • Experience building data pipelines with NiFi.
  • Track record of delivering results through written documentation and oral briefings.
  • Familiarity with Git for code versioning.
  • Knowledge of Elastic and Kibana technologies.
  • Ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Experience in documenting code, Python packages, and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Jupyter Notebooks.
  • Experience in machine learning techniques, including natural language processing.
  • Capability to explain technical concepts to junior data scientists.
  • Experience in developing reusable and reproducible work.
  • Background in mathematics, statistics, hard sciences, computer science, or business analytics.
  • TS/SCI with polygraph clearance required.

Desired:

  • Experience in system configurations and enterprise systems development.
  • Strong communication skills for responding to emails, calls, and inquiries.
