The Position:
CBE is hiring Voter Outreach Organizers that will be based in either Richmond, California or Los Angeles, California.

The Organizers are part of an inspirational team that engages voters and community through phone banking, canvassing, and in-person and virtual outreach on the issues of neighborhood oil drilling, corporate and polluter accountability, housing justice, and building a statewide membership base of progressive youth and communities of color.

The person(s) in this role should be strongly self-motivated and believe in the power of people to make changes for the betterment of communities across California.

This position requires conversing over the phone and in-person to mobilize Black, African-American, Indigenous, Latine, youth and voters of color to get involved and take action.

This is an in-person position with expectation for in-person phone-banking and canvassing from our local offices either in Richmond, CA, East Oakland, CA, or Los Angeles, CA.

This position reports to either the Senior Voter Outreach Lead or the Voter Outreach Lead, will work in collaboration with other Outreach Organizers, is a member of CBE's Civic Engagement Department, and attends alliance trainings and meetings.


Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Political Education: Through provided trainings become familiar with environmental justice, climate justice, housing justice, corporate accountability, and progressive revenue generation to effectively communicate campaign information and disseminate information to voters and community. Commitment to engage in additional reading material and selfeducation as needed.
  • Direct Voter Contact: Engage a specific subset of voters through phone banking and canvassing efforts. Maintain professional and persuasive conversations with voters and peers. Phone banking and canvassing on average 4 hours per day during voter contact campaigns. Accurately mark voter responses and input voter contact data. Utilize textbanking tools to reach voters. Immediately notify Leads of technology issues with mobile canvassing and phone banking equipment and tools. Immediately communicate health and safety concerns while engaged in voter contact efforts. Communicate phonebanking and canvassing supply needs to supervisor.
  • Volunteer Recruitment: Help recruit volunteers through direct voter contact, personal networks, amongst organizational membership and through outreach efforts.

Community Outreach:
Attend in-person and virtual outreach opportunities, efforts, and coalition activities to represent organization, disseminate information, and build membership. Maintain and develop relationships with allied organizations, community groups, agencies and individuals to support outreach efforts. Assist in the collection of supporter, volunteer, and membership contact information. Support with co-facilitation of educational presentations and trainings to increase community support during public outreach events.

  • Spokespersonship: Participate in training/meetings to learn how to tell your personal story on the phones, at the doors, in community and to the media to help build a narrative that centers the role of young people and communities of color in fighting for environmental justice and corporate accountability.
  • Content creation: Participate in trainings/meetings to help brainstorm and support the development of digital content, such as memes and TikTok videos, that engages young people online and mobilizes them to take action.

Qualifications and Expectations:

  • Interest in empowering community members and voters through community and electoral organizing
  • Interest in environmental justice, climate justice and commitment to longterm social change through outreach and organizing
  • Experience using canvassing, phonebanking and outreach tools (Mobile PDI, CallEvo, CallHub, ThruText, CallFire)
  • Ability to work in highpaced, goaloriented, and highpressure environments
  • Willingness to engage people from different age groups, social, cultural, and professional backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; strong verbal and written communication.
  • Strong work ethic, selfmotivated, punctual, with high integrity.
  • Ability to work well individually and in a team setting.
  • Previous phone banking and canvassing experience preferred, but not required.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish and other languages is a plus.
  • Access to reliable form of transportation for local travel and have the ability to travel within California.

Compensation and Timeframe:
This is a temporary, part-time (22 hours a week) position, with an hourly rate of $22.00. This position has an expected start date of June 24, 2024 and will end on December 6, 2024. Evenings and weekends expected. Weekly work schedule will be coordinated with your supervisor.
