JOB TITLE: Business Development Planner

SUMMARY

As a member of the Business Development Unit (BDU), the Business Development Planner leads or supports proposal development on assigned opportunities. This position contributes to the implementation of the business development strategy and supports in the pursuit of new business opportunities. The Business Development Planner is responsible for supporting complex proposal development processes in a Proposal Coordinator role, and for managing challenging proposal efforts, including:

  • Managing cross-cultural proposal teams.
  • Coordinating program design and proposal strategy development.
  • Writing sections of proposals.
  • Conducting final quality assurance prior to proposal submission.
  • Maintaining current knowledge of the latest development methodologies and donor trends.


PRE-REQUISITES

Required

  • Master's degree (MA/MS) in International Relations, International Development, Public Policy/Administration or in a relevant technical area/related discipline such as Public Health, Agriculture, Economics, and 3 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.
  • Three or more years of related experience supporting proposal development for USG donors.
  • Ability to lead proposal strategy sessions to develop proposal value proposition and win themes.
  • Experience writing successful proposals or grants, demonstrating ability to write, integrate, edit, and articulate targeted solutions clearly.
  • Excellent leadership, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Capable with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
  • Must exhibit sensitivity to and interest in other cultures and belief systems.


Preferred

  • Applied experience in, and understanding of, USG regulations for grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts.
  • Experience in research, assessment, or evaluation of development programs.
  • Proficiency in French, Spanish, Arabic, and/or Portuguese.

  • Participates in fundraising strategy development.
  • Contributes to unit work plans to meet annual revenue targets.
  • Attends relevant seminars, conferences, and meetings for skill development.
  • Leads process and tool development initiatives.
  • Performs other assigned duties.


Opportunity Cultivation, Intelligence, and Marketing

  • Collects and analyzes information on donor priorities and trends.
  • Tracks online portals and industry news for new business opportunities.
  • Identifies qualified leads/funding opportunities.
  • Develops communication material to market capabilities.


Proposal Development
  • Supports/leads proposal development efforts.
  • Defines program strategy/vision with team members.
  • Writes, edits, and compiles proposals.
  • Reviews proposal drafts for accuracy and feasibility.
  • Stays informed on donor submission requirements.


Knowledge Management, Communication, and Sharing
  • Engages with donors to identify needs and provide information on how to meet them.
  • Captures learning from proposal processes to improve tools continuously.
  • Develops marketing materials relevant to business development efforts.
  • Provides technical assistance to country offices.
  • Attends relevant conferences and workshops.


TRAVEL

Up to 35% domestic and international travel required. Must have the ability to travel on short notice if necessary.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, perform under pressure, complete tasks independently, and interact professionally with others.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform essential job functions and be in optimal health for field travel.
