Job Description:
The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, developing, coordinating, and managing the product cost system.

This position administers all policies regarding product cost activities, including, but not limited to, current activities, historical analysis, future projections, and internal controls.


Essential job functions include:

  • Oversight and management of product cost transactions.
  • Analysis of actual manufacturing costs and preparation of reports comparing standard/budget costs to actual production costs.
  • Analysis, and reporting of daily production cost activities according to US GAAP.
  • Responsible for cost adjustments as needed.
  • Development and implementation of internal controls that align with company goals.
  • Collaboration with the Finance team to determine cost estimates for new and proposed products, processes, and/or customers.
  • Ensures proper period-end close relating to product cost, inventory valuation and transaction cutoffs.
  • Assistance with general ledger accounting functions including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations related to costing.
  • Collaboration with Production, Purchasing, and Accounting departments in setting standards and practices that ensure proper cost allocation and/or absorption to inventory.

  • Possesses effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient understanding of production processes, quality controls, costs, and other aspects in the manufacturing and distribution of goods.

  • Ability to balance multiple needs and priorities.
  • Ability to stay organized and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Skilled in using Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proficient in using ERP and supporting software.
  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate information effectively in English with professional proficiency.
  • Demonstrates Respect, Teamwork, Accountability, and Determination.
  • Ability to work in an environment where exposure to potential food allergens is or may be present.
