The City of Palmer, located in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, is in search of a highly organized and personable leader to fill the role of City Manager. The ideal candidate should possess solid and proven skills, as well as experience, with a genuine passion for serving the city council and citizens of Palmer.
The successful candidate will be working in a unique, home rule municipality with a council-manager form of government. As the City Manager, you will be a salaried position appointed by and reporting to the city council.
To apply for this position, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications stated in the job description and submit the following:
- Cover Letter/Letter of Interest
- Typed Resume
- Examples of written work such as memos, reports, or correspondence from the last two years, related to current or previous employment (limited to six pages)
- Answers to the supplemental questions provided
The City Manager's responsibilities include overseeing the proper administration of all city affairs, implementing city policies, and developing effective relationships with various officials and the public to ensure efficient operation and service provision.
The ideal City Manager must be able to work under pressure, multitask effectively, and demonstrate initiative and responsibility in decision-making. Excellent communication, negotiation skills, and sound judgment are essential for this role.
Moreover, the City Manager is required to reside within the city limits within 180 days of hire. The salary is negotiable based on experience, and relocation assistance may be provided.
