Description
Under the general direction of the laboratory director and in conjunction with the chief of pathology, irresponsible for coordinating the daily operation and the activities of the staff of the histology, surgical pathology, and cytology. As a working supervisor, performs a variety of procedures in the section.
Maintains policies, standards, and procedures set forth by the laboratory.
Coordinates the planning of schedules and work assignments of the staff within the histology section to ensure an even distribution of the workload and to maintain the skill levels of all staff members.
Coordinates the training of all employees within the section for new equipment and procedures.
Ensures that the technical staff performs all tasks and procedures such as microtomy, routine staining, cover slipping, and cleaning of slides according to standard criteria.
Ensures that special staining procedures are performed according to established procedure.
Ensures that daily, weekly, monthly, and as needed maintenance on instruments and equipment is completed.
Ensures troubleshooting procedures are performed as needed and will determine when service is required foresaid instruments and equipment.
Ensures that all quality control procedures established are performed as required.
Ensures that all record keeping
Minimum Education
X Associate's degree X Preferred
X Equivalent educational/technical training and technical experience as a histology technician X Preferred
Required Skills
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Licenses:
HT(ASCP), HT(NCA), or equivalent registry and meets CMS and GDHR requirements.
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum three (3) years' experience as a histology technician preferred.
