Battelle is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our Compliance, QC and Study Support Group in Columbus, OH.
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a range of histological procedures, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine and complex histological procedures, including tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, special staining, and immunohistochemical (IHC) staining.
- Operate computerized equipment and record data using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Perform routine maintenance and operation of various histology laboratory equipment.
- Use proper record keeping in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Understand and follow all pertinent Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Study Protocol requirements.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with 5-7 years of experience in the field or a related area.
- Certification as a Histology Technician, HT (ASCP) or Histotechnologist, HTL (ASCP).
- Experience with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within histology, including tissue embedding, staining, microtomy, quality control of tissues, and tissue/slide inventory.
- Adherence to chemical agent, facility, and bio-facility safety requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to be organized, multitask, communicate effectively with a team, and desire to learn new skills.
- Able to work at a fast pace in a high-throughput lab environment.
- Sufficiently medically fit to work in a lab wearing appropriate respiratory equipment.
- Working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) in support of non-clinical studies.
- Demonstrated detail-orientation and strong organizational skills.
- Reliable and punctual with good written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Access.
- Ability to work in a biosafety level 2 (BSL2) and/or 3 (BSL3) environment.
- Willingness to participate in periodic drug screening and occasional evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
- Working knowledge of Provantis.
