Description

We are hiring a Design Thinking Manager. Design Thinking is a human-centered, empathy-first approach to creativity and innovation. Its underlying principle is focusing on user needs, aspirations, wishes, concerns, and frustrations in attempting to solve their problems. At the end of the day, design thinking makes it easier to find the perfect point of intersection between desirability, feasibility, and viability. It allows for asking the right questions that will help propel creativity. Design Thinking involves five key steps: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype & Test.

What You Will Be Doing:

This role will lead the Empathize & Define steps (see below) in preparation for PD&L projects. The Ideate, Prototype & Test steps will be led by the Product Studios or Portfolio Management teams.

  • Works with the Enterprise Customer Marketing GM on developing the insights & needs of this customer segment using Design Thinking principles & strategies.
  • Leads a team which interacts with the Market Insights team and the Enterprise Customer Vertical Market teams to understand the insights, trends and desires of this segment.
  • Using various methods of obtaining User Insights (e.g. observation, developing personas, ethnographic research) develops a POV about product needs, applications, service/delivery models & other solutions to enhance the Customer Experience.
  • Aids in coordination of Corporate Marketing strategies.
  • Collaborates with Portfolio Management & the Product Studio teams to create the EXP-900 & CON-125 (perhaps other PD&L deliverables).
  • Encourages entrepreneurial Design Thinking activities within the function.
  • May identify and initiate contact with outside sources, consultants and consulting firms for exchange of ideas and Design Thinking assistance.
  • Partners with sales on the sales process and meets with customers and A&D to provide insights.
  • Works with Enterprise Customer team on presentations relating to output from the Design Thinking team.
  • Responsible for building and leading a team of design thinkers and creating a healthy culture within the team where innovation thrives.

Who You Are:

Required Skills and Competencies

Bachelor's degree in marketing; master's degree beneficial.

Seven to ten years' experience in related discipline.

Familiarity with Design Thinking principles, contract office furniture design, application and culture.

  • Ability to understand the Customer Facing side of our business and the Selling Model(s) utilized by Steelcase to support the Enterprise Customer Segment.
  • The ability to integrate Design Thinking principles into our understanding of the Enterprise Customer Segment as well as specific vertical markets.
  • Translate the user needs & data analytics into Customer Personas with immediate tactical needs of the market into product/s that support our long-term vision and integrate into our broader design image will be critical.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team
  • Acute business and customer acumen
  • Strong organization and presentation skills
