Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the VP of Wireless Core Engineering & Operations, the Principal Engineer, Wireless Core Engineering will be empowered to be the technical authority for Cloud-Native 5G/Packet Core Components (AMF, SMF, UPF, NRF, UDM/AUSF, PCF, BSF, SEPP etc.) as well as IMS Core/Messaging.

DISH's 5G network vision is built around a continuously updated, highly-automated system utilizing cloud native technology.

This role will be responsible for defining efficient integration processes and procedures that span DISH and vendor test labs, trial environments, and the live network.


In this role, you will:


Work on mission-critical projects in the Wireless Core space that have significant impact to our businessEngage in early discussions with our partners (device, network, enterprise) to understand requirements for introducing new products & servicesAbility to understand complex technical requirements and translate them into design.

Must possess an ability to simplify & communicate to all levels (engineer all the way to CXO)


Demonstrate technical leadership & have the ability to unify the broader team towards a common solution, must have very strong conflict resolution skillsWork with product development & architecture teams to understand early product requirements, find gaps, assess the architecture & propose changes required before implementationResponsible for leading roadmap/feature introduction, dimensioning & deployment architecture related discussionsWork closely with the IMS, Messaging, Device & Packet Core Operations Counterparts on network & service availabilityHelp define initial set of network KPI's to monitor network performance and continually refine them as the network matures.

Help refine system and subsystem requirements with a focus on testabilityGenerate, organize, manage, and oversee the execution of system and design verification tests to validate compliance with specificationsProvide input into the test automation framework as a critical engineering stakeholder to help deliver against the automation vision of the Wireless organizationWork with the team to understand and prioritize test exceptionsGuide the company toward requirements-driven development while adding immediate value during requirements definition and nimble product development processesSkills, Experience and RequirementsAs a successful Principal Engineer-Wireless, you will have:

Bachelor's degree in computer science and/or electrical engineering with 12-15 years of experience in wireless telecommunicationsExperience working on IMS and/or Packet Core with a major vendor or Wireless Carrier or VendorExceptional analytical skills; Strong understanding of telecom principles, including familiarity with 2G, 3G, LTE, and 5G Core technologiesExperience integrating and testing a complex software stack; Bachelor's degree in computer science and/or electrical engineeringExperience & familiarity with Public Cloud (AWS) is highly desiredA passion for working on new technologies in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Experience & familiarity with IMS Products from Nokia & Mavenir is desiredHe or she will be able to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization.

This individual will have a strong background in Engineering IMS Networks with verifiable deployment referencesThe successful candidate would be very familiar with the cloud evolution cycles/stages (VM's vs VNF's vs CNF's) & will have a deep understanding of how the telco products undergo the evolution towards a cloud-native implementation

Salary Range Compensation:
$115,500.00/Year - $165,000.00/Year Compensation and BenefitsWe also offer versatile health perks, including flexible spending accounts, HSA, a 401(k)
