The Mayor's Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence (ENDGBV) develops policies and programs, provides training and prevention education, conducts research and evaluations, performs community outreach and operates the NYC Family Justice Centers.

These comprehensive service centers provide vital social service, civil legal and criminal justice assistance under one roof to survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.

The office collaborates with City agencies and community stakeholders to ensure access to inclusive services for survivors of domestic and gender-based violence.


The Staten Island Family Justice Center (SIFJC) offers coordinated services to survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and elder abuse in one location mainly through on-site personnel who work for partner organizations such as nonprofit organizations and other city agencies.

The Deputy Director position reports to the Executive Director of the SIFJC.

ENDGBV is recruiting for one (1) SUPERVISOR_I (SW) to function as the Deputy Director, New York City Family Justice Center, Staten Island

The Deputy Director will:

  • Assist the Executive Director in managing the day-to-day operations of the SIFJC, while
resolving issues in his/her absence.

  • Manage the implementation of SIFJC operational policies and procedures, and work with
onsite partners to modify procedures as needed, including assisting with the coordination

and development of new policies and procedures.

  • Support the work of the SIFJC staff including co-located staff, which entails conducting
risk assessments and connecting survivors for services.

  • Assist with the coordination of regular training series for all SIFJC staff and volunteers as
well as staff from community-based organizations.

  • Conduct or coordinate training to community members and service providers related to the
topics of domestic violence, elder abuse and sex trafficking, and related subjects.

  • Serve as secondary liaison with City and State agency partners, elected officials, Family, Criminal
and Supreme Courts and community partners to the SIFJC.

  • Serve as secondary liaison with City agency partners on building maintenance and security staff.
  • Represent the SIFJC at coalition meetings, task forces and/or committees addressing domestic
violence, elder abuse, and sex trafficking.

  • Coordinate, facilitate and attend SIFJC partner and discipline meetings.
  • Assist with conducting outreach, educational and program activities regarding domestic violence and
other related topics.

  • Assist in developing new partnerships and programs for the SIFJC.
  • Assist in program evaluation and data collection at the SIFJC.
  • Assist with various administrative and office management tasks as needed and as directed.

Hours/Schedule:
M-F, 9-5

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work and one year of full-time satisfactory experience practicing social work utilizing one or a combination of casework, group work and community organization methodologies.

Certification and License Requirement:

A valid Certified Social Worker (CSW) certificate or Licensed Master of Social Work license (LMSW) issued by the New York State Department of Education must be obtained within one year of the date of appointment.

Employees who fail to obtain their CSW or LMSW within one year after appointment will automatically have their probationary periods extended for no more than six months.

Failure to obtain the CSW or LMSW by the end of 18 months of service will result in dismissal.

Section 424-a of the New York Social Services Law requires an authorized agency to inquire whether a candidate for employment with child-care responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report.

The agency has the discretion to assign a candidate who has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report to a position with no child-care responsibilities.

Preferred Skills

  • Extensive experience in the field of domestic violence preferred. - An understanding of the network of City and nonprofit service provision in New York City preferred. - Managerial and supervisory experience. - Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. - Excellent time management ability including the ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines. - Ability to work well in a diverse team environment with all levels of supervisory and frontline staff. - Comfort giving public presentations.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.

However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
