Job Title: Principal Software Engineer at Microsoft Entra

We are seeking a talented Principal Software Engineer with a proven track record of delivering distributed cloud services and a strong commitment to tackling challenging problems. Our team at Microsoft Entra, previously known as Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), plays a central role in Microsoft's cloud strategy. We are responsible for building and operating essential authentication, authorization, and directory services utilized by millions of users globally across Azure, Office 365, XBOX, and Windows platforms.

As a Principal Software Engineer at Microsoft Entra, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies in storage and distributed systems, implementing innovative algorithms to solve large-scale problems with high performance. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience developing high-scale, distributed systems on a cloud platform.
  • 5+ years of mentoring and coaching other software engineers.

Other Requirements:

  • Must meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
  • Specialized security screenings, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check, are mandatory for this role.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field and 10+ years of technical engineering experience, or Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent.
  • 7+ years' experience in building and delivering production-grade software/services with a focus on telemetry and monitoring.
  • 4+ years of experience in building distributed services.
  • Expertise in performance benchmarking and optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Build, evolve, and co-own a hyper-scale distributed service.
  • Participate in all stages of the service lifecycle.
  • Address global-scale service issues, enhancing resiliency, latency, and product reliability.
  • Champion automation efforts for regional buildouts.
  • Drive enhancements in service quality, stability, and engineering best practices.
  • Demonstrate effective customer empathy, curiosity, and a willingness to question and learn, including participation in live site on-call rotations.
