Role Description

The Control System Engineer is responsible for EDR's critical control system and meeting the Company's and customers' safety and operational expectations. The Control System Engineer supports regionally deployed control system upgrades, modifications, purchases, troubleshooting, assembly and testing of control systems to include in-product, as established or new systems.

This position liaises with the Control System Manager, Control System Engineering Team and Technical & Reliability Team to ensure alignment, compliance and advancement of the control system for most effective and efficient offshore operations, including reduction of non-productive time (NPT).

Responsibilities

  • Support the U.S. organization with control system expertise, including specifications and evaluations.
  • Deliver on the job training to offshore operators and workshop personnel on the control system hardware and software.
  • Perform troubleshooting on equipment and solutions when issues, equipment failure or other, arise with a focus on minimizing NPT.
  • Support offshore operations for equipment to ensure that it is implemented as intended and operationally functional.
  • Assist in testing and maintenance in workshop.
  • Assist in troubleshooting in workshop and offshore (onsite or remote).
  • Setup of computers for testing and training.
  • Assist in assembly and testing for new designs in support of global control system team.
  • Develop potential training material.
  • Assist in the design and planning of rig integration of EDR equipment onto offshore installations.
  • Review procedures and documentation required to assist local testing in U.S.
  • Assist, as appropriate, the development of EDR control systems, support to procurement, 3rd party manufacturers and workshop.
  • Assist in other technical and aligned tasks, including business development and engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Instrumentation, Automation, Electro, Cybernetics or other relevant degree
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
  • Instrumentation knowledge and experience
  • Topside and/or subsea control system experience
  • Strong computer skills
  • Low voltage electrical knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge of networks and communications protocols, software architecture
  • Basic understanding of software architecture and programming
  • Some drilling rig experience and overall understanding of the drilling process preferred
  • Experience working with Variable Speed Drive (VSD) preferred
  • Subsea hydraulic system experience preferred
  • Knowledge of Siemens PCS7//TIA portal/WinCC preferred
  • Strong communication skills, to communicate technical information, both verbal and written

  • Local and regional travel to support US based operations
  • Travel offshore to assist in operation, installation or preparation for operations, rig site visits and in support of new installations.
