About the Company

The Office of Arts and Culture (OAC) is a key division of the Dallas City Manager's Office. OAC is dedicated to fostering support, partnerships, and enriching opportunities for Dallas residents, visitors, artists, and arts and cultural organizations.

OAC's ultimate goal is to create a more vibrant city and enhance the quality of life for all Dallas residents. They strive to build a fair environment where artists and cultural organizations can flourish, providing people of all ages with avenues for creative expression, and celebrating the diverse cultural heritage of the city.


OAC envisions a connected community where everyone can thrive through meaningful arts and cultural experiences, irrespective of their neighborhood in Dallas.

To achieve this vision, OAC supports various initiatives such as public art installations, a city-wide events calendar, a radio station, and grants to artists and cultural organizations. Additionally, OAC manages 19 city-owned cultural facilities including the Bath House Cultural Center, The Majestic Theater, and the Moody Performance Hall.


Position Overview

As the Assistant Director at OAC, you will report directly to the Director and be responsible for managing projects, overseeing data analytics, conducting thorough operation and budget reviews, recommending data-driven operational enhancements, ensuring project quality control, and supervising staff members.

The salary range for this position reaches $142,693 at the midpoint.


Key Responsibilities

The essential functions of the Assistant Director role at OAC include:

  • Managing research, development, and configuration requests, ensuring prompt and accurate responses to stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with partner departments to maximize available resources.
  • Tracking and updating performance measures, especially related to the Dallas Cultural Plan 2018 and the Dallas Racial Equity Plan.
  • Providing executive management for hiring, performance evaluations, and other personnel actions while ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Assisting in budget development and monitoring, recommending solutions for budgetary issues.
  • Overseeing procurement processes and facility agreements.
  • Representing the department at various committees and professional activities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Assistant Director position should exhibit strong leadership and a results-oriented approach. Essential qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of seven years of senior-level management experience in business operations or public administration. A Master of Business Administration or similar advanced degree is preferred.

The candidate should possess knowledge and abilities in strategic planning, budget management, team supervision, and supporting cultural initiatives to enhance community life.
