Under direct supervision of an experienced functional leader, this position oversees small to medium functional projects or phases(s) of a larger project within the HIM department.

This individual will be responsible for executing health information requests to ensure compliance with current, applicable state and federal regulations within health information management.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Educate providers regarding compliance with government regulations with special attention to Center for Medicare and Medicaid guidelines, HIPAA, and Fraud and Abuse with periodic updates.
  • Auditing patient records for timeliness, completeness, accuracy and appropriateness of data to ensure compliance with Joint Commission and CARF standards.
  • Assist in performing analysis of current situations and recommend priorities and goals for future clinic needs. Identify coding and billings risk areas, conduct focused reviews, and assist HIM Director implement corrective action as needed.
  • Conduct routine internal audits of provider documentation on a timely basis.
  • Collaborate with physicians and internal staff in development of improved capabilities in the areas of documentation, coding, and compliance.
  • Assist HIM Director with the review of internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with appropriate State, and Federal guidelines and policies, sound business and finance practices, and overall clinical goals and objectives.
  • Respond promptly to external and internal concerns.
  • Communicate with Medicare/Medicaid Carriers and third-party payers regarding policies and procedures.
  • Promote compliance initiatives with clinical faculty and administration.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Minimum Education:

  • Associate degree in health information management or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school

Required Minimum Certification:

  • RHIT or RHIA

Required Minimum Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in health information management and medical records review.

Required Minimum Skills:

  • Adept at learning and using computer systems.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Discipline and organization to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Personal ownership of assignments and responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, execute, check results, and improve on a continuing basis.
  • High level of organizational skill to ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • Ability to develop strong relationships and experience working with senior level management.
  • Experience conducting investigations and managing the investigative process.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work is primarily seated but may involve walking or standing briefly. Occasionally lifting or carrying up to 15 pounds
