Fife Lake, Michigan, United States Scottish Water Full time

Together we are Dedicated to Serve Scotland.

Have you ever stopped to think about the journey of clean water to your tap or how your wastewater is managed? Well, Scottish Water doesn't just think about it; it's our sole focus.

Interested in being part of our team? As a Water Operative, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring that Scotland's water remains consistently pure and reliable.

  • What you'll do

Join our team of experts dedicated to water management, where you'll assist in monitoring and upkeeping water quality at our treatment facilities and pumping stations.

Operating according to our TOMS procedures, you'll handle tasks such as calibrating monitors, filters, tank levels, and more. Your responsibilities will include maintaining accurate records on water quality parameters like pH, chlorine, aluminium, and phosphate.

Our goal is always to exceed the standards set by regulations and laws.

Upon joining, you'll be equipped with a hardhat for regular inspections of plants, reservoirs, and dams. Additionally, you'll conduct risk assessments and adhere to strict health and safety protocols, participating in the standby rota for after-hours coverage.

  • What you'll bring

We'll provide comprehensive training on the technical aspects of the role. We're seeking individuals with strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to adapt to new technology.

Attention to detail is vital to prevent inaccuracies in records and ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines. Having an eye for identifying trends and a knack for creative problem-solving, both independently and collaboratively, will be assets.

A valid driving license is required, but we'll supply the vehicle—all in the name of safeguarding Scotland's water.

Moreover, while knowledge of water treatment processes and mechanical maintenance experience are advantageous, they are not mandatory.

  • Supporting you

We understand that work-life balance is essential. Therefore, besides engaging work, you'll enjoy 38 days of annual leave (including public holidays) and the option to purchase an additional five days. You'll also have opportunities for paid community volunteering.

Our family-friendly policies cover various life events, such as adoption, maternity, and parental leave, while our embrace of flexible work arrangements caters to your everyday needs.

Plan for the future with our pension scheme, complete with life assurance coverage. Additionally, anticipate an annual company bonus and access to SW Splash—an exclusive rewards program that offers savings on vacations, utilities, and shopping.

The specifics

This position falls under Grade 4, with an initial salary of £27,590 for newcomers at Scottish Water. As you progress based on performance, you can potentially earn up to £32,410.

If this role interests you or someone you know, applications will be open until midnight on May 31, 2024.

Key points to note

Research indicates that individuals often refrain from applying for a job unless they meet all the criteria listed. However, at Scottish Water, we encourage candidates to apply even if they don't fulfill every requirement. We understand that everyone has a learning curve and we are open to supporting your growth.

Feel free to share any adjustments needed in our recruitment process to ensure your optimal performance. We are well-versed in accommodating individuals with disabilities, neurodiverse conditions, or those facing temporary challenges like the menopause. Don't hesitate to reach out.

Reflecting our commitment to a prosperous Scotland, all employees must be Scottish taxpayers. If you decide to join us, residing in Scotland will be a necessity. For those relocating, a commitment to moving within the first three months is expected.

Lastly, to maintain an updated recruitment database, applicants who haven't applied in the past year will have their records automatically deleted. No action is required on your part.
