The Role

Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is looking for Entry-Level Welders. No prior experience required; we provide training. As a welder, you'll undergo certification at our state-of-the-art Welding School before utilizing various welding techniques to carry out structural and/or pipe welds throughout the shipbuilding process. Your tasks will encompass tack, fillet, and full penetration welding on steel foundations, structural components, and pipe joints for aircraft carriers and submarines, employing methods such as SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW. Besides welding, you'll receive additional training in certified visual inspection, fire watch, carbon arcing, and troubleshooting welding equipment issues.

Must Have
- Capable of working at extreme heights or in confined spaces
- Able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb
- Physically fit to lift 40 lbs
- Willing to work indoors/outdoors year-round in all weather conditions
- Flexible to work shifts as per production requirements
- Capable of passing Physical Agility and Respirator Fit assessments

Nice to Have
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
