Job Summary:

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Columbia Investment Management Company is in the process of creating an advanced data analytics platform to facilitate portfolio management and investment decision-making. As part of this platform, we require an experienced database developer and architect with expertise in relational databases, data warehouses, cloud databases, and financial analytics to assist in its construction.

The selected individual will play a crucial role in designing and developing the data storage, retrieval, and analytics necessary to support portfolio management, analysis, and selection. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, the Database Architect / Developer will be responsible for new application development, improving existing applications, and providing continuous support.

Responsibilities:

  • Offer hands-on development expertise and leadership in product development for portfolio management and investment selection
  • Lead all stages of application development, from requirements gathering to deployment
  • Assess and choose the appropriate technology to meet IMC's analytical and data storage needs
  • Coordinate tasks within the software development lifecycle alongside the software team
  • Act as a database leader, participating in peer code reviews and enhancing the team's database skills
  • Contribute to the improvement of DevOps processes and procedures
  • Develop test plans and provide technical support throughout testing and QA processes
  • Complete any other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
  • Over five years of relevant experience

Additional Requirements:

  • Proficiency in SQL development, including SQL Server
  • Experience with cloud-based databases like Snowflake, Google BigQuery, or Amazon RDS
  • Familiarity with No-SQL stores, data pipelines, and data transformations
  • Knowledge of AWS, cloud services, automated testing, DevOps, and CI/CD
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Understanding of Git/Version Control
  • Detail-oriented with excellent analytical skills and organized work habits
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment
  • Capable of demonstrating exceptional organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills
  • Collaborative and customer service-oriented with a commitment to quality
