Job Description Job Description Semmes, Bowen & Semmes has an immediate opening in our Baltimore office for a Benefits and Retirement Specialist.

This position oversees the daily management and administration of our benefits and retirement programs.

Including health insurance plans, life and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, employee assistance program, leave of absence management, pension, 401(k), and other ancillary benefit programs.

We offer a flexible work environment with options for hybrid and remote work. Semmes is a paperless office with personal laptops provided for employees.

Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in human resources management, Business Administration, or a similar field.
Five years of relevant work experience, with progressive experience in administering retirement and employee benefits programs and processes.
CEBS or other benefits plan certifications is a plus.
Previous experience at a law firm, administering a pension plan and self-insured medical plans is a plus.

Knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including ACA, COBRA, 457 plans, FMLA, ERISA, Secure 2.0, etc., particularly those related to benefits and retirement plans and the ability to apply that knowledge effectively to ensure compliance.

Strong understanding and experience of benefit and retirement regulations.
Strong understanding of premium rates, stop loss programs, etc.
Strong communication skills, verbal and written.

Strong people skills and the ability to work effectively at all levels across the organization, demonstrating diplomacy, tact, responsiveness, and professionalism.

Excellent organizational and time management skills, a high attention to detail, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Self-initiative and the ability to work independently with a strong work ethic as well as part of a team.
Capable of completing high-quality work expeditiously under minimal supervision.

Ability to read, comprehend, interpret, and compare information/data and demonstrate math skills to ensure accurate calculations so numbers can be reconciled.

Ability to manage sensitive information, maintain confidentiality, and ensure such information is secured and maintained in an appropriate manner.
Technical skills using Microsoft Office with an advanced level of proficiency in Excel.
Candidates must be legally eligible to work in the U.S.

Responsibilities:
Provide day-to-day management of the suite of employee benefits and retirement plans.

Function as primary point person and subject matter expert for all medical, dental, vision, HSA, FSA, group life insurances, STD and LTD, pension, and 401k employee questions and consult with benefit vendors as needed, with support of the Firm Administrator.

Support benefit changes in a timely fashion and in accordance with firm policies.
Support the delivery and administration of Semmes benefits programs by updating enrollment/participation information and records promptly and accurately.

Serve as point of contact for providing accurate and timely responses to employees related to benefits and retirement questions and needs, including those related to obtaining clarification about plan provisions, enrollment, eligibility, and assistance with carriers.

Support the processing and administration of all leave requests, including FMLA, paid family leave, etc.
Provide retirement plan communications, ensures legal compliance, and other activities to support employee participation and program success.

Ensure that relevant forms, information, and supporting documentation are provided to and collected from employees to ensure timely and accurate approval and tracking/documentation processes.

Ensure accurate and timely processing and monthly reconciliation of carriers invoices and submission of payment requests.
Work closely with outside consultants on annual benefit plan renewals, and plan design changes/recommendations.
Execute various employee benefits processes/projects including annual benefit guides and Open Enrollment from start to finish.
Write reports, business correspondence, and policy and procedure manuals.
Primary point of contact to report and process any Workers Compensation claims.
Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to benefits and retirement programs and processes.

Participate as a Human Resources team member, attending staff meetings, and supporting the implementation and administration of various department initiatives, managing, performing, or assisting with various projects, processes, and programs.

Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and maintain the confidentiality of all Human Resources-related information and other confidential matters related to firm operations.

Maintain a focus on professional development and keep abreast of Human Resources trends and issues, particularly those related to developments in retirement and employee benefits .Perform other duties as required.
