We are collaborating with Make-A-Wish Maine Chapter in the pursuit of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to efficiently lead the Chapter towards the future. The CEO will oversee daily operations to accomplish the mission, objectives, and yearly operating plans. Make-A-Wish Maine conducts its impactful work with a devoted team and collaborates with community volunteers to implement its programs, under the governance of a Board of Directors.

Requirements for the Chief Executive Officer:

  • Mandatory Bachelor's degree, with a preferred advanced degree
  • Demonstrated dedication and commitment to the Make-A-Wish mission
  • A minimum of 10 years of executive or managerial experience in a reputable nonprofit or public institution, or substantial nonprofit involvement through voluntary service
  • Essential knowledge or experience in major gift cultivation, solicitation, and fundraising principles as they influence an organization
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with a proven history of guiding and expanding organizations
  • Previous positive collaboration with governing/fundraising boards and successful development of these boards
  • Familiarity with the legal, fiscal, and regulatory landscape of nonprofit operations
  • Strong business acumen and budget management capabilities
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to plan and execute short-term goals towards a long-term vision, generating actionable plans that deliver outcomes
  • Ability to travel to the Scarborough, ME office and various communities across the region and state

Job Benefits:

  • Competitive annual salary ranging from $135,000 to $150,000

  • Hybrid work schedule (3 days in office, 2 remote)

Responsibilities of the Chief Executive Officer:

  • Develop an organization, staffing, and succession plan that fulfills the chapter's needs
  • Recruit, select, train, and motivate a highly skilled staff that meets or surpasses objectives
  • Ensure the existence of appropriate initiatives and volunteer development programs to achieve the yearly wish granting objective
  • Direct key stakeholders towards mission-critical, long-term initiatives through effective strategic planning
  • Inspire the organization to consider broader perspectives
  • Translate strategies into measurable action plans in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Execute short and long-term plans and use tangible metrics for success evaluation
  • Enhance brand awareness, engagement, and collaboration through impactful messaging, intentional community engagement, relationship-building, partnership development, and purposeful calls to action
  • Lead in succession planning and board member recruitment to meet board requirements
  • Collaborate with the board to establish strategic plans and goals that support the advancement of the mission, also setting up mechanisms for regular review of progress
  • Ensure the organization maintains proper oversight, internal controls, forecasting, and transparent reporting to enhance or sustain fiscal health
  • Provide the board with timely and accurate financial information, including finances, investments, audits, and other financial matters
  • Contribute to the development of an annual fundraising plan to diversify and optimize funding sources, guiding staff and the board to capitalize on significant revenue growth opportunities
  • Take a proactive role in fundraising and managing relationships with major donors and corporate sponsors
